  2. LED for reef lighting

There are 1W and 3W led's which are extremely bright.. www.luxeon.com Unfortunately, they are fairly expensive ($9-$15 each) and powering them is also fairly pricey if you use proper drivers. I picked up a dozen of them on ebay for a couple $$ a piece to play with but I haven't had time to...
  3. DIY MH reflector?

You can use the Law of reflection to compute the facet angles based on the position of the bulb vs the position of the reflector. I don't know of a specific program other than something like Optica would would be overkill... Some graph paper, a ruler, and a pencil would be the easiest... or...
  4. homemade chiller....

Yeah, I think I was going somewhere with that statement and then backspaced through the majority of it because it wouldn't have mattered to anymore.. I should have erased the entirety. _________________ Mercedes Benz 560
  5. Actual Mirror as a reflector?

Reef Box: precisely... some Al alloys are bendable some are not... pure Al sheet is not. Usually bendable aluminum containes magnesium and silicon to keep it from fracturing. Al foil is bendable either because of it's alloy content or the process in which it's made (rolling). Either way...

The wire brush didn't scratch the glass? I removed the top frame and scraped off most of the silicon, but if you look closely... there is still some there... will MEK soften it enough to remove? _________________ household budget
  8. Removing glass scratches?

I've heard of people using 0000 steel-wool.. never tried it myself. Scratches on the inside tend to disappear with water in the tank unless they're terrible. They just remind you to clean the glass more often. On the outside... I never notice them. _________________ Vitamins & Supplements Forum
  9. Actual Mirror as a reflector?

Remember, not all Al is bendable... because of the crystalline nature of Al, simply buying a "sheet of alumium" and bending it could result in several smaller strips instead of a long reflector! Just an FYI... _________________ Honda CR250R
  10. DIY MH reflector?

Stainless works, it's an interesting beast to work with though... you would have to have it bent with a special piece of equipment as it would be a real B**** to do yourself without it. Bendable Aluminum is easier to work with, you can bend it at home with a few clamps for simple angles, but...
  11. homemade chiller....

Let's see... where to start... Of course this will work! It will work by evaporation... salt creep... you can contain that... ozreef.org used to have a DIY section for cooling towers.. which is what you're building... All you really need to do is use a piece of rigid tubing 3 - 4" diameter...

Does acetone really work that well? I've never had a great deal of success with acetone, maybe I was using too dilute a soln. _________________ Georgian Forum
  13. Ballast question from lighting.reefs.org

I was checking the spectra of some SE and DE bulbs on the lighting.reefs.org page. I noticed that for ballast selection, several of the SE bulbs offered the choice of an M80 ballast which I thought was primarily reservered for DE bulbs. Is it possible to use an m80 ballast to light most SE...

I would have to say that JT always goes above and beyond his responsiblity as a retailer to ensure his customer is happy.
