I would deff purchase a back up pump as I have the user above is right. However I am still using th one it came with. It's quit powerfull and does a great job even with the return. But like I said I would purchase an upgrade and use it as back up

It's black you can't really see the algae and I would leave that alone if.you can turn it into Caroline algae that would help . But it's easy to.clean with sponge

sounds like salt creep. your going to have to open the controller and clean it with rubbing alcohol and dip Q-tips and swipe away. if the electronic board doesn't work some sensor or chip on the mother board is toast. You can always purchase one on Amazon and see if that was the case.
