Some people prefer the " Drip Method " to replace evaporated water from their systems since it adds fresh water SLOWLY and will not cause a sudden (though brief) shift in salinity. Just dumping in a pitcher now and then could have this effect if the dumper is not careful. Dripping is also a good...
Tim, I have 3 400 watters 10 inches above the water, and they still get a little splash on them from time to time. I would be very leery about mounting something that hot so close to the surface. Very apt to break, and the heat transfer to the water would necessitate a large chiller...
Salt will not evaporate with your water, thus "salt condensation" is a physical impossibility. If you have salt on your bulb, it is being splashed somehow.
Dave lin is 100 % correct, if you MUST remove the clam from the rock, the only way to do it is to cut the byssus (thats the term !) as far fom the clam as possible with a sharp blade. if these threads are ripped loose, the clam will VERY LIKELY die !
Good luck !!
It is working well on my 85 gal. system 1 tank also. Maybe a GOOD THOROUGH cleaning (no soap, just warm water)to make sure there is no mold release from manufacturing. or oils from skin and you might be in business.
The 2 biggest questions back at ya is : how far are you moving, and what type(s) of filtration are you using? Short distances with bioball/live rock as filtration is the easiest to move as long as media is kept moist, and system is running again within 4 to 6 hours. As time goes on without...
Has anyone ever used this stuff? The testimonials at the MANUFACTURERS site look good. http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/html/miracle.html
I am setting up a new 125 system, and this might be the way to go, if I hear some good things from someone who is not affiliated with this company.
I am using a Tidepool overflow with great results. Am running approx 1400 gph without any problems what-so-ever. This unit is one of the most silent on the market too. My 200 Gal. tank sits right next to the boobtube, and can't hear the tank at all.
runs between 80-90 $.
