  1. New tank-New Reefer

I would say there are far more desirable, or at least interesting, than bad things on the rock. Much to my surprise, the live rock itself was perhaps the biggest source of excitement over the first 6-12 months of having a new tank. Seemed like everyday we would look at it and say "woah, what the...
  2. Probably an easy Coral ID for ya

My friend has all my books and I've had trouble finding a good, easy site to navigate with lots of coral pics. I'm sure this is a more common SPS as our LFS had several. Thanks!
  3. dSLR's, general use, aquarium and underwater

So, going on another cruise around Xmas, hitting belize, costa maya, grand caymans and cozumel. I want to get a new camera (right now just a Fuji Finepix 3k, 3 something at least, about 4 years old). The choice has really come down to the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT or the Nikon D50. The Nikon...
  4. Splendens or flavivertex?

You can get the neon dottys tank raised. I've got one and seen another that are completly peaceful. I read horror stories of them after my wife bought one and put it in without talking to me about it, it was very pretty but... Most of the older writings said they were terrors, but the newer...
  5. Need a new heater. Any ideas???

How does one check for "stray electricity" in a tank? Just notice a tingle when your hands are in it or use a meter or something?
  6. My LM Blenny...

They (really all of the blenny's, I have a redlip in a different tank) are great fish IMO. I got a 75g from someone last year after they lost power for a few weeks and gave up. It was loaded with hair algea so first addition was the LMB. She was great for ~6-7 months, and in that time the hair...
  7. ropelight as moonlight

Thanks for the help guys :) I'm just down to the color choice. Stinks this is one of those things you can only decide when seeing it yourself, pictures don't reflect what the RL does at all. I'll probably end up with the blue :)
  8. ropelight as moonlight

I'm starting to wonder if my moonlights already in there are white and not blue. I was looking at some lit up LED's at radioshack and the whites definently seemed more like what I had. Wish I knew a thing about soldering and wiring up those myself, but just looking at the prices I don't think...
  9. ropelight as moonlight

Quick question for those who have used ropelight as a moonlights. Do they give off that neat "glimmer" effect? I just realized my PC lights had a moonlight in it that wasn't wired right, just a single LED. It is amazing the impact it has at night on a 4 ft tank. So I wanted to add to it, but...
  10. Alluminum drums for water changes?

I was using rubbermaid garbage cans for water changes (I have 125g and 75g tanks), but twice I've had them get small leaks near creases from the strain of so much water (the 45-50g sized ones). My dad works at a bottling company, and gets 55g drums all the time, but I did that whole assuming...
  11. Free Shark

Have you tried contacting some of the various reef clubs around you? A lot have forums on the reefcentral reef club section, and the ones around here have some reps from LFS's as well. Try the NE FL and Orlando ones perhaps.
  12. Average Age

30 next week :) Unix systems admin/project manager. Finishing up graduate school in neuropsychology tho. Don't ask how the two fields relate :P
  13. Glass for MH light pendants? UV?

Ok, thanks guys. Yes it is a DE bulb, and the glass was thicker than Home Depot had. I'll just take the pane to the glass shop near here and see if they can match the thickness. It had a slight "green" tint if you look at the edge of the glass, so wasn't sure what was up with that.
  14. Glass for MH light pendants? UV?

I bought a couple of used MH pendants, and in shipping one of the glass fixtures was shattered. I have the other one to match up to, and was told I needed to get UV filtering glass. Well, so far Home depot, Lowes, Acehardware and 2 large local glass manufacturers in town have looked at me like...
  15. underwater camera cases?

I've heard you can containers so you can use your camera underwater. I'm going to be in the east caribbean next month, and was thinking of looking for something for my fuji finepix. Is that possible? If so, where is a good place to look, or what are they called so I can do a search :)
