I'd go 1/2" reutrn lines. I'd go with a Mag9 choked back. The SCWD requires a certain amount of pressure to work correctly. Too much and it doesn't work at all. So, it might also depend on where in line you put the SCWD.

It is possible that a crab nippeed, or maybe scraped the coral. If conditions were right it could have had some tissue loss. A full scale RTN overnight, probably not. I would check Ca, Alk, Ph. Was there a loss of flow? Any recent additions to the tank. This happens a couple time a year? Yikes...

YOu could try removing the rock or colony and pick 'em outta there with a pair of tweezers...If that doesn't work, a freshwater dip might be in order if the zoanthids can be removed.

Do they move? Have you noticed them anyhwere else? Are they abundant?
