I have had one for over a year now. This skimmer is only good for small, lightly stocked tanks - don't go by what the specs say. Another thing is that it requires constant cleaning to keep it working. Also make sure that you get the new impeller which is lighter than the old one.

Liverock is supposed to provide a surface or pores where beneficial bacteria will form a base to provide biological filtration. However, will coraline algae not close all the pores and reduce the rock's porosity?

So I finally took a sample of my water to two different LFS, and it turns out that my alkalinity is actually 11dkh. Seems like my salifert test kit is bonkers.

I have had my tank cycling now for 3 weeks. My alkalinity is also around 9 meq! Calcium seems stable at 430 ppm. I did a test on my RO water and it showed 0 alkalinity. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the way I make up new saltwater. I am using Instant Ocean.
