  1. life span of snails and crabs

Interesting. The large turbo snails are still doing their job, while the small (1/2") dwarf crabs are just about all gone, or are really great at hiding. The tanks may have been at the upper temperature limit of 78 - 79. I started to cool off the tanks a few days ago and they are now ranging...
  2. life span of snails and crabs

Any guesses as to the average life span of your typical cleaning crew? Seems like there are about half as many crabs as two years ago (maybe they are just hiding better!). Do you replenish a few every few months? Don't think I've lost a fish, or shrimp in 5+ years. Craig
  3. skimmer gone wild!

Helipilot and Laura, Thanks for the comments and reassurance! I went out and bought a power filter to run carbon (did not install the bio-wheels). Don't know if it will help. I plan to run it for maybe two days, and will run the skimmer whenever I'm in the area. The skimmer is mounted on...
  4. skimmer gone wild!

Partial water change about a week before with no problems at that time. I do wash my hands before, and after, diving into the tank but I don't get this much suds even when washing dishes! Only additive I have been using is a few ml of iodine each day or so. Thinking about buying a cheap...
  5. skimmer gone wild!

My two year old skimmer (Won Brothers CU-75 (venturi type)) has recently gone rogue filling the collection cup with clear "wet" foam. The cup fills in about 20 - 30 minutes. No amount of adjustment of the outlet valve will slow the foam back to normal. I have cleaned it, and even replaced the...
  6. Any good LFS in the Seattle & Portland area?

http://www.seahorse-nw.com/ is a great marine lfs. A little hard to locate in the basement of a wharehouse, but great folks. (note: the above link didn't open for me just now) Craig in Portland
  7. Top heavy snail?

Recently added a few Margarita snails and every few days I find one or more on its back. I gently flip them back over rightside up, and in a few minutes they get underway. Is this normal, would they eventally right themselves? Craig
  8. Aiptasia Infestation

Whoa! Wondering how long the infestation took to get this far (photo)? I have two Aiptasia, but they don't seem to be spreading, and my wife think they are "cute"! Been meaning to try Peppermint Shrimp, but the supply at my LFS don't look too healthy. Craig
  9. Possible to use sea water and rocks straight from the ocean?

Looks like you have received excellent advice here, and you have probably searched the web for other ideas. Thought I'ld give you a link to a site that I found well written and informative. http://fins.actwin.com/mirror/sbegin.html Craig
  10. new won skimmer update

Great news! I just (2 hours ago) installed a new WON CU-75 to replace the no name skimmer that came with my wet/dry. Hope to see some gunk in the next day or two. Craig
