i was wondering what the safest RO unit there was around, at an affordable price. by safe... i mean for use with an aquarium and also for human consumption. right now, we buy our water for drinking and tank from the supermarket. it uses RO, carbon, and UV filtration.

i've pointed my powerheads downward to create more movement on the surface of the sandbed, but now the sandbed is all... uneven. there's spots where there's 1 in of sand, and spots where there's 5 in of sand. is this ok to have?

yeah... sorry. the digi cam that i used was really small. it's not mine. i wish i had a digi cam. it's more of a purple color. it feels slimy... and at some parts... looks like strands of hair.

we used to have a goby that used to move sand a lot... but it would always skip over parts with this stuff on it. also... we have the fluval and 2 powerheads in the tank. one powerhead is slanted downward at the sand but there still some hair like brown algae there.

can some one tell me what this is? also... will it go away??

hey... i'm starting to slowly take out all the inside media of our fluval. about a month ago, i took out the floss. tonight... i took out the carbon (cause skimmer also has newer carbon) and moved all the biomax cylinder stuff to the top compartment. i removed about 1/3 of the total biomax...

thanks for clearing that up for me. damn... and all this time i've been letting it sit for 2 days before. what a waste of time :(

do i REALLY have to wait 24 hours (after i mix the salt with water... and temp is correct) before adding it to the tank?? some LFS are saying to wait atleast 24 hours, and some LFS are saying you don't have to wait that long. the water that i'm using is from the supermarket here in Vancouver...

what about feeding your livestock with "Sea Monkeys"?? :D

i was wondering... is there a tell tale sign that your sandbed is live? i mean... how do i know how "live" my sandbed is? and roughly, how long does it take for sandbed to become live (when you first start your tank)? sorry if these questions look n00bish to you. i'mma n00b. :? ***** EDIT...

is it safe to put a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp with a peppermint shrimp? i have a couple aptasia that i would like to get rid of.

actually... now it's skimming better. i took off the overflow contraption... that took care of the air bubble in the intake pipe. also... the water level is just below the "o-ring" and the foam is rising nicely. we'll see in a couple days if it stays this way. thanks for your help guys.
