Mine split too... last year sometime. I can't quite remember when. It was about 18" when it suddenly became 2! It was pretty cool. One of them is now over 12" long and I'm wondering if it'll split again.

Not sure about your particular bulbs, but my 6500K Iwasakis have little glass nipple things on the arc tubes. If yours do, make sure they are pointed up as this is the correct orientation and has significant impact on the colour of the light.

My 250w 6500K Iwasakis are most certainly not yellow... bright white. The water does tint them a bit off, but the bulbs themselves are definitely white.

Peppermint shrimp are completely reef safe... you're probably thinking of Camel-back shrimp. They look similar and are often referred (incorrectly) to as peppermint shrimp.
A crab will probably "try" to catch a pep if it's hungry enough, but shrimp can move pretty darn fast when they want to...
