  1. Coral of the Week: Turbinaria peltata, the Pagoda coral

I've had my turbinaria peltata for about 6 months now. Looks like this . I have mine located high under the glass brace in my Oceanic 180g. It get direct light, through the glass brace, from 3 140W VHO, but no direct light from the 250W MH. It get occasional high current from the two Sea...
  2. Inland Reef / Reefs.org Salt Analysis Project

JohnRogan, And, ultimately, that is the point of the experts. What we are asking to accomplish, is really beyond the scope of the "average" man, and I put myself squarely in the "average" man camp! If we want results that are truely scientific, not anecdotal, then we should heed the...
  3. Kalk reactor?

Man, if I had stuff spawning in my tank, I'd be loathe to change anything! 8O :D Stuff must be pretty happy if it's spawning, I'd just keep right on trucking!!!
  4. too many chemicals!!

If you decide to go to a reef tank at some point, in general, additives will still not be needed. Some sort of balanced additive to maintain Alk and Ca, should do it. You will have decide for yourself if Iodine or Iron are needed. I don't dose anything, top off with RO/DI water and run a Ca...
  5. Interesting info about some salt mixes

Does this make it clear finally, to all of the naysayers, why Dr. Shimek only tested four salts, with money out of his pocket! 8O What's funny is, all of the people saying more salts needed testing because Ron was biased, haven't stepped up and donated their $1000 yet! Put your money where...
  6. Interesting info about some salt mixes

It's funny how many people are interested in tearing down other people, any way possible. Especially with inuendo, false claims, and accusations of impropriety. Dr. Ron only tested 4 salts, because, gasp, it was all he could afford, he mentioned this. The salts were either present, donated...
  7. Metal Halide Experts plz respond..

And you have the flexibility to switch to another bulb if you like. I run EYE250 bulbs on a MH ballast and love them. After 2 years, no comparable difference, to the eye, with a new bulb.
  8. Interesting info about some salt mixes

FYI Look here! Some interesting information about salt mixes.
  9. help with drip rate for calcium reactor

I have to disagree with the previous post about not worrying about effluent drip rate. If you have problems with low pH, then drip rate is a huge concern. You will want to minimize the effluent entering the tank, driving pH downward, while maintaining your desired Ca and Alk levels. This is...
  10. Alkalinity help please!!

Your alkalinity is still in the NSW range, if the Ca levels are exceptable and you aren't getting pH swings, you don't really need to tweak it. If you insist on tweaking  I would go with baking soda. This should raise your alkalinity.
  11. Looking for an economical calcium reactor? Ha OXYMORON?

I'll second Dan's recommendation. Just hooked up one last month, very nice! A cheap calcium reactor is still very expensive, but after getting my My Reef, I can't understand paying $700 to set up another brand. I bought a single chamber, with the Blueline CO2 gauge package (very, very nice)...
  12. (dead of night).........."SNAP!!! SNAP!!!".....

GOCS, With my Florida Aquacultured live rock I received a bunch of pistol shrimp. Most of them were very small, 1/4" or so, and they made a ton of racket. Usually they were heard after lights out. Never really saw any of them until the tank was torn down, but, I was lucky enough to have one...
  13. Feedback on IPSF.

No, leave the title just the way it is. IPSF was not willing to make it right, they had to be pressured to make it right. Big difference. Threads like this can exert a lot of pressure on mail order reef companies. If IPSF had been taken at their word, right from the start, Rook would have...
  14. Feedback on IPSF.

It would be a cold day in he!! before I pay a company, like IPSF, for the cost of critters and shipping, that was never even attempted delivery. Everybody standing up for IPSF seems to ignore this. If an order leaves your place of business, and the shipping company routes it around the country...
  15. GT'S TANK................

GT, Nice setup! I love the fact that my fish cast shadows from the MH lighting. Took me a while to notice it, but has a high coolness factor!
