  1. Most humane method to euthanise fish?

Fish are cold blooded so their system adapts to cooling without any pain. This is what enables them to go down to 100+ feet and continue to function fine in the colder water at those depths. The most humane way is in a container of salt water overnight in the freezer. Their metabolism will...
  2. Best fish to eat Mushrooms & Aiptasia

I'm not sure about the mushrooms. The butterflys seem to be hit or miss. I used peppermint shrimp in my tank and it worked great. However I'm not sure how they will interact with the cleaner shrimp you allready have. I'm also not sure if your Anthius would chow down on them. I think that the...
  3. Masked Swallowtail Angail?

It is a Genicanthus melanospilous. It's a female and it does look like a juvenile. I have a young adult female in my tank. Definately not a masked. Give her some time. Mine hid for almost a full week. Now she's out all the time and the first to my fingers come feeding time. Make sure that you...
  4. looking for a lighting system for my tank

I don't know if you've considered T5s or not but they run cool and produce a lot of PAR. I'm running 4 - 54w on my 110 gallon with SPS, LPS and Softies. It's not quite enough to do acros but a friend had a similar set-up on her 75 and her acros were doing great. Another is using 8 on his 110 and...
  5. t5 lighting

I'm rumming 4 -54w on my 30" deep tank. Standard tubes, not overdriving, standard reflectors. I keep a few easy SPS, LPS & softies. All are doing well. If I wanted to do most Acroporia I'd either need to overdrive the four tubes I have or go to a 6 tube set-up. I do have to admit that I miss the...
  6. limestone rock

Hey blackcloud give the guy a break! Maybe that's what the reefs in PA look like!!!!!
  7. SPS

Another good choice would be Pocilipora. You might also look into Live Aquaria and Reefhotspot.com. I've had good success from both.
  8. Caulerpa Frustrations

I agree with the harvest by hand method. Just keep an eye on it and if any starts to lighten, don't wait to get it out.
  9. Need to know more about this Algae

And once you've removed as much as you can manually you may want to consider a Tang in the Zebrasoma family or a rabbitfish. My purple tang loves calurpa!
  10. new to reef questions

A few suggestions even before you start. You will NEED a RO/DI unit. Start with 0 TDS and you will save yourself a lot of headaches. You mention skimmer but don't say which one. Your Skimmer will be your single most important piece of equipment. It will export organics which would otherwise...
  11. SPS

There are a number of SPS that will do well on moderate light. You will want to keep them nearer the surface (probably upper third) using PC lighting.
