  1. Home Construction Safe for Fish?

Are the fumes associated with contact cement used for formica application overly dangerous to fish tanks? In the adjacent room to my fish room, we will be using this cement which comes with a warning to humans. We plan on closing off the room and blowing a fan out the window to aerate, but I...

Check this out: It appears to be splitting right down the middle. I've never knew they could do that...
  3. shrimp attacking my feather duster

UPDATE: Ironically, my feather duster just popped out for the first time with a brand new crown. Sweet.
  4. shrimp attacking my feather duster

My peppermint shimp did the same exact thing. It would pick at the feathers and eat them or just pull them out, until it looked like my feather duster had gotten a haircut. I removed the shrimp as soon as I could but it already had done a lot of damage (they are hard to catch). The duster...
  5. Peppermint shrimp lays egg on rock?

Are peppermint shrimp supposed to keep their clutch of eggs on their body until hatching? As soon as lights went out tonight my pep shrimp dropped her eggs on a section of rock. Both of the parents are hanging around nearby, but I had never heard of this.
  6. Clove/daisy polyps?

Are these clove or daisy polyps (are those even the same thing?)? They look just like other pics I've seen, except the center of each polyp isn't a different color than the rest. Thanks! Here is the pic: http://www.bilherron.com/emjs777/whatisit.jpg
  7. Fighting Conch secretes defensive mucus?

As to the color of the mucus, it was clear to whitish, and it collected sand in it immediately. A lot of it was weighed down an stayed on the sandbed, but some floated away and was very stringy.
  8. Fighting Conch secretes defensive mucus?

Actually, the peppermint was definitely going after the conch, it was reaching inside the shell quite aggressively. I just did a google search for "conch, mucus, defense" and found a few sources saying that many mollusks secret mucus as a defense mechanism. The mucus tastes horrible and...
  9. Fighting Conch secretes defensive mucus?

Anyone ever see this? One of my peppermint shrimp just attacked my fighting conch. The conch jumped away, but not before secreting this ooze that distracted the shrimp and is now hanging off all of my rock and caulerpa. Really strange. The conch got away safely and the shrimp just got a...
  10. Fish Intelligence?

I read a post a while back - maybe on another site - about a tang that would "play" with "toys" that its owner put in the tank. For example, it would pick up floating blocks and put them in a floating bowl, and then take them out again. I was wondering if anyone has any fish that show a...

  14. Bush Administration Wants To Add CO2 To Oceans

You are forgetting that a city bus carries 50 or more people, all of whom would be driving their own cars and releasing that much more CO2, had they not been riding the bus. The way to curb our CO2 problem is to encourage mass transit - like city buses and trains - so that we, personally...
  15. Ocellaris behavior

One of my two ocellaris is exhibiting a new behavior today. The female of the pair has found a shallow niche in some live rock. She backs into it, gently rubs against it, hovers slightly above it, and finally rests in it, completely motionless for about one second before swimming off like...
