  1. Selcon

Hi all, What do you think about enriching rotifers and artemia with Selcon before feeding the clownfish larvae ? Is it really worth ? I ask because I am in Brazil and it´s quite costly to import the stuff. Thanks Chico
  2. Seahorse rearing

Hi, I have already read their articles, but none of them is specific about plakton. Some articles tell just to put some aquarium water in a sunny window in the hope that some "plankton" bloom there to raise the seahorses. But thanks for tip. Chico
  3. Seahorse rearing

Hi, I have read some web pages that tell about feeding "plakton" to the new born fry. What "plankton" should be used ? Will rotifers do ? or I must feed copepods in order to obtain a good survival rate ? Thanks Chico
  4. Pajama cardinal breeding

Hi, Does anybody have any information regarding breeding the spheramia nematoptera ? Their larvae are much smaller than bangais, are they smaller than clownfish larvae ? Do they eat rotifers as first food ? Thanks Chico
  5. Bangai Sex Dimorfism

Hi, After raising a few hundred clownfish, I will try to breed the Bangai cardinal. Can someone tell me the diference between male and female ? Chico
  6. Starting Algae & Rotifer Cultures

Hi, It's pretty difficult to start from scratch. First of all, try to figure out if the starter cultures are allowed to be imported. If positive order them from FAF. Another alternative is to obtain them from a university that have cultures and can give starters to you. This the best because...
  7. Algae culture medium

Hi, I live in Brazil, and the freight charges and import taxes made it impossible for me to import such things. But I have worked out and solved this problem around here, by now the algae and rotifers cultures are ok and hundreds of clowns have been raised. Chico
  8. Artificial Rotifera

Hi, I have used the OSI´s American BP. It´s a microencapsulated food in the 100 micron range. Some larvae ate the stuff but it polluted so much the tank, that two vacuuns a day is necessary. I would not use this kind of aproach to taise clowns, not even just a few. It´s not that much labor to a...
  9. Clarkii Clowns

Hi, They will probably do. But a 20 gallon would be the best. I cant help with the rotifers cause I live in Brazil, but you will find a source on the net, try www.aquaculture-supply.com. Good Luck, Chico
  10. Clarkii Clowns

Hi Mark, The fish should be around 10-12 month old when ready to breed. There´s nothing to do to make it faster. But you should pay special attention to the nutrition of these fish, so when the time comes you will have good pairs, which will produce hard larvae. Have a little patience, the joy...
  11. First attempt at breeding

Hi Sean, I have just siphoned two larvae tanks, and you better bet you won´t be happy to have all those dirt water conected in any way to you display tank. Larvae tanks are heavily fed and there is also much uneaten food on the bottom (the reason to go with the bare bottom). IMO a bare bottom...
  12. High first night mortality in Ocellaris

Hi Dman, No way to find cyclop-eeze around here, probably by early may I should travel to Miami, so I will buy some. My spawning are around 180-200 eggs, with 99% hatch rate. Chico
  13. High first night mortality in Ocellaris

Hi Dman, As written in the article I told you, I added 20 g of paprika powder per kilogram of mix, this should yield about 30mg paprika esters per kilogram of food. The first food is the standard rotifers (brachionus) cultured with microalgae (nannochloris). At they four I start feeding artemia...

  15. High first night mortality in Ocellaris

Dman, They have just spawned. It seems the eggs do have a better coloration, let´s see how the larvae will do. Anyway, last hatch is doing fine with 100plus fish metamorphosed. My calculations is that this represent 63% overall survival. Chico
