Don't take my advise completely, but I'd think if you wanted to try it that you should make a separate container of saltwater to put the rock in and use the wire on. And rinse well before putting the rock back in the tank. But if it wasn't completely dead it may just regrow anyway.

Basically is a powerhead okay? I've got a tiny tank I am going to set up for a blue leg hermit, a few snails and zoas. It's only 2 gallons, but I figure that with water changes and top offs it should do okay. I've got the motor from an old stingray filter, which basically makes a 36 GPH...
