Should I remove the 1/4" plexi-glass top on my tank and go with nothing. My reservations are : the risk of shattering my bulbs. Also I will have to clean them off once a week due to salt build up. Questions: Does the plexi glass cut the good ( right spectrum)light out significantly or is it...

  10. Lighting Suggestions - Beginner

I know that Custom Sea Life sells a retro- fit product in 32 watt PC and up. Ask LFS (local fish store) if they can get you one ! Mabey 2-55 watts would be better - if affordable , but 2-32 watt PC's will do. Shop around Custom sea life has a web site at "www.customsealife.com" satrt there, and...
  11. My closed loop PICS wadya think?

NICE SETUP !!! Only thing I would have done different would have mounted pump higher so there was less head and more power. Also there is little room to remove pump for servicing, a higher installation would have made that job easier. Otherwise perfect ! AJReef.html
  12. DIY Halogen lighting...ideas?

TRY Power Compact lighting for now and when you buy your MH setup ,eventually, you'll have something to supplement some actinic lighting. Power compacts are cheaper than MH and will do the trick with enough wattage, about 3-4 watts a gallon. You can get a P.C. retrofit kit with ballast and bulb...
  13. MOON TUBES - Moon light for your corals ??

Anybody ever heard of these flourescent bulbs ? " Moon Tubes" - They are supposed to be true actinic and they simulate the "Moon" Light corals recieve at night. 14. Lighting Suggestions - Beginner

You have to upgrade at least to small Power Compact unit, very cheap under $200 for your tank. ( Small investment ) Unless you'll be stuck with feather dusters and fish and mabey some shrimp or crabs. Remember though that any Reef or semi-reef tank requires a nice balance of macro algae growth...
  15. How high are your lights above the water??

Get a little high rpm fan from radio shack meant for cooling a cpu. Adapt it as needed. Mabey a transformer will be needed. Then lace fan between tank top and lighting unit. And place those PC's as close as possible with a peice of glass or plexi over top of tank to stop splashing. The Lights...
