  1. Lumenarc III and Lumenarc Mini Performance Comparison

Yea I'm able to fit 2 160 watt VHOs in my canopy so that works. The mini's foot print should allow me to keep my VHO's. I'm gonna sell some SPS and hopefully pick up a few.
  2. Lumenarc III and Lumenarc Mini Performance Comparison

I use XM10K and my growth is insane but I'm really looking toward these to swap out in place of my spider ones.
  3. Lumenarc III and Lumenarc Mini Performance Comparison

Do you guys think there is a big difference between 3 of these compared to 3 of the spider reflectors over a 180?
  4. Tell me about your cleaner crew

I only add to my cleaner crew once every 18 months. Generally, snails will die from being flipped over or just not lasting awhile. I add about 50 astreas and 20 of another variety to my 180 gallon. I also add about 10 hermit crabs at the most since they kill the snails. I try to stick with the...
  5. Mixing LPS and SPS corals

What Len stated works great. Personally, I rarely use carbon unless I feel the need but I don't think it will hurt by any means.
  6. Check this skimmer out

Well, I honestly don't see how that skimmer can do any better for my tank then it is already. Here are some of my colors I achieve with a G3 on a 180 which many considered underpowered. I get good gunk out of it and I have a decent bioload as well with around 18 fish. I think anyone can achieve...
  7. Diatom problem

Well if you read some of Randy's articles, he tested putting silicates directly in the water and it had no relation to diatoms. I originally thought the same but he was saying how it is still a nutrient issue and the presence of diatoms do not have an indication on silicates. I'm not a chemist...
  8. Mixing LPS and SPS corals

SPS and LPS will work fine together. Most LPS are on the bottom of the tank and your SPS is from the 25% mark and up. Just becareful because LPS will nuke a SPS faster then a fat woman rolling over a skinny man.
  9. Diatom problem

Silicates won't cause a diatom break out. Just give the tank some time and make sure you have good flow. A good cleanup crew and patience will make it go away.
  10. Check this skimmer out

Well I'd use the skimmer if it worked well. And I agree with supply and demand but I'm surprised people will drop that much cash on it. Like I said, there is always a sucker :). I'll stick with my ASM G3 which skims great for me and my corals are just as colorful or more then any of the other...
  11. Aiptasia control w/ copper wire

I honestly don't see how that would work. But putting a copper wire isn't going to hurt your tank unless left in there to erode.
  12. Check this skimmer out

I can understand some skimmers costing some money. But give me a break. 1200 dollars for that? People really overcharge for some of these things because there is always a sucker who will buy it.
  13. Overheating Tank-Suggestions?

How deep is the tank? VHO doesn't have the depth penetrating power of MH or T5's. So I would think twice about raising the lights too much. Like others stated, I would drop a fan going across and remove the glass tops. Do you have a sump on the tank? Great time to add one and put the fan...
  14. Mushrooms are taking over my tank!

Unfortunately that won't work. Someone gave me a good idea I'm going to try. Get some aquamend putty. Flatten it out and put super glue gel on it and mold it to a rock. After 2 weeks, use a butter knife and rip it off and they should be dead. I'm going to do that on a few problems area. Other...
  15. What do I look for when I buy SPS at my LFS?

I disagree with it probably dieing. If your tanks parameters are fine with no large swings, the coral should do just fine. Like mentioned, stay away from browns and try to find some that have a good color. Any spots peeling or white can possibly show signs of issues. Depending on the size, some...
