  1. Improper mix of Mg Supplement

Hi, Years ago I used to dose my 125g reef tank with a one part Kent Marine Magnesium supplement. I wasn't able to achieve a consistent regular dose until I purchased in 2011 a dosing pump. Over time this lead to an increased use (and expense) of Mg. I started buying a two part mix for a...

  3. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

Thanks Zuska for the input, but if you read my post directly above yours I state that I solved my problem. It was caused by accidentally disturbing my DSB and releasing toxic compounds into my water column. I run my salinity between 1.024 - 1.025. Thanks!
  4. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

**Update to*** Help my acros are shedding their tissue!! Well, it's been about a year since my sps's started shedding their tissue. They continued to die off over a period of about 5 months. I lost almost all of my acros. My monti's and zoa's for the most part were fine. During this period I...
  5. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

Hey Ducati....Yes I do run carbon in my tank. In fact I switched out for some fresh carbon just the other day in case there was something chemical at work causing my havoc. I have never fed my corals and they have done very nicely over the years. I mix all different types of food: Mysis...
  6. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

Today I fragged my acros that we're left cutting above the receding tissue. Hopefully with fresh cut ends that will stop the progression.
  7. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

I'm using Bulk Reef Supply 3 stage unit for 5 yrs now with a TDS monitor. Phosphates and nitrates are close to zero.
  8. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

UPDATE:..... Not Good. My salinity has been at 1.025 for the last few days, alkalinity is at 9.3dKh and my corals are still shedding their tissue. Any ideas??? Please....
  9. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

Yep, constant level. Yes I am aware that the water height adjustment is the main cause of wetter or drier skimmate.
  10. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

The water enters my sump from pipes near the pump inlet for my skimmer. When I have both of my filter socks installed all of the bubbles caused by the rushing water are minimized. When the socks are not there more bubbles are in my sump and thus more bubbles are sucked up the skimmer pump...
  11. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

My salinity issues are caused by my Skimmer. Depending on if I have my filter socks in place near the pump inlet for my skimmer determines how much skimmate I am producing. Since I have an ATO, excess skimmate can cause a drop in salinity...(because my system is replacing with fresh RODI water).
  12. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

The interesting part is that my zoas and some softies look better than ever. Do they thrive in a lower salinity or alkalinity?
  13. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

Jarrett, when I read last night that someone mentioned salinity on a different board I slowly started to increase. I will slowly bring up the levels to 1.025ish over the next week or so. thanks
  14. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

I have not added any new corals in close to a year...but don't yell at me....I don't dip.
  15. Help....my acros are shedding their tissue.

BTLReef - I've been looking closely for red bugs, so far haven't seen anything. My alkalinity spent a couple of weeks in the 6. something range before I noticed and then I slowly raised up to 8 - 9 range. My RKE keeps temperature in check and monitors my calc reactor to keep my effluent at...
