  1. not so pulsing Xenia

They may respond to nitrite or ammonia, I don't know. Mine never seem to care about anything more than nutrient levels. They are usually much happier when my tank's nutrient levels are up a little. And they look better when the nitrate is not quite zero. (IE: not high, but barely shows on the...
  2. Macna XIV - Best Ever?

Great presentation, btw, Steve. I really enjoyed it. I am very interested to see how your two new tanks do over time. Congrats.
  3. Info on your reef aquarium needed - Please Help

    1. size of aquarium? ( 96 x 30 x 26 ) / 231 = 324 Gallons 2. pieces of coral? More than 40. 3. Small Polyp Stonies ? ~35 or more. 4. Soft corals: 2 (polyps, shrooms) 5. Large Polyp Stonies? 4 6. maricultured corals? more than 35 7. age of your reef tank. 12 months 8. other reef aquariums...
  4. Floating magnets????

I definitely agree. The magfloats are fine for general cleaning, but the stronger magnets are definitely worth it in wear and tear on your arm for diatoms and corraline algea. Plus they work much better for thicker glass or acrylic.
  5. need id on angel

And anything else it can get its lips around. Definitely not a reef-safe fish. I had one for a long time in an FO tank. The poor thing died a few months ago for some reason. He was only two or three years old too. He picked at absolutely everything, and decided one day to evicerate a few shrimp.
  6. Built-on Overflows

Interesting idea. It would have to be custom made though, and anyone who would be brave enough to make it for you would probably charge a pretty good amount for it. Have you thought about customizing your overflows a little? Maybe make the drains/returns about 1 &1/2" and then do corner...
  7. Yellow Tang Vs. Sailfin: How much bullying is too much?

nah, these guys live forever and are a ball to watch. Its just time to get that 200 gallon tank you've been wanting.
  8. Calcium Reactor $$$

And I thought this thread might be boring! And you're right, contestant number one, antartica IS a country. You've won a spin on the wheel of post doctorate nonsense languages...click, click, click,click....
  9. MACNA

I will be there. Can hardly wait.
  10. acrylic tank maintence

My tank is viewable on both sides, but not the ends. I put an acrylic safe magfloat 360 on both sides of the tank. If I could find them, I'd probably use a stronger magnet, like a aquariumcleaner.com Great White magnet or a magnavore (more expensive). The magfloat is ok, but it isn't good at...
  11. anthias in a 30g?

One word: Don't. I tried a small school. Even in my tank, it didn't work. I think they really only feel comfortable in a large group, and I only got three to start with. They all hid, didn't ever come out, and eventually died. A good waste of money there. I could probably get a good size school...
  12. Yellow Tang Vs. Sailfin: How much bullying is too much?

just as a reference (I don't know what size tank you have) and just because its a funny story... I have a tiny butterfly in my tank right now cleaning up some aiptasia, and for some reason my sailfin hates having him in there and is displaying some pretty wierd behavior. Other day my sailfin...
  13. HELP!! Overrun by Aiptasia

They are finicky aiptasia eaters at best, and they do tend to stick with juvenile aiptasias only. They are definitely oportunistic! In fact, I had two that were *absolutely not* camels that destroyed several inhabitants of my tank once they got older/larger before I could catch them. I've had a...
  14. Emerald...caught in the act!!!

LOL! I got a kick out of that one, and I've had a bad day, so I needed it! :D What camera did you use for the closeup of that crab? Nice macro shot.
  15. Pics of how you return your water into the tank

I've seen other setups like this. Good dispersion and water flow. Usually, they run along the back of the tank because maintenance is harder when you have something in the way all the time. You might want to angle your 90 degree elbows to bounce off the front & back glass though. If they point...
