  1. Easiest anemone.....if there is such a thing

LTAs are wonderfully hardy anemones. The only thing bad about them is that they can grow VERY large VERY fast. They (any anemone) will sting corals when they feel crowded in. I had an LTA grow 6+ inches in 3 months, I ended up having to find it a new home. The up-side is that quite a few clowns...
  2. pics of my 29g

I second that! Quite beautiful and warm looking! It really does look very natural.
  3. c balance or b ionic?

I use both B-Ionic and Ocean's Blend. I love both because my coral obviously loves it! I have amazing coraline growth and my LPS and SPS are growing like weeds.
  4. Mantis Shrimp on tonga rock?

Thank you! :D I'm still muggling through learning about all this stuff! My tank is now at 8 months old.. I was told it will be amazing at 2 years but it is so hard to have that kind of patience!! Most of my corals have come either from LFS or other hobbyists. I try to stick with...
  5. my reef tank's newest inhabitants

Peppermint shrimp are nocturnal, so you won't see them really doing much while the tank lights are on. When you turn out the lights wait about an hour then take a flashlight and examine the tank. You'll be surprised at all the critters in your tank, even stuff that you didn't even know you had! :D
  6. my reef tank's newest inhabitants

Peppermint Shrimp are good for keeping Aptasia at bay. Are you looking for a decorative macroalgae or one specifically for nutrient export? If you want the macroalgae for nutrient export, I would suggest Chaetomorpha (spaghetti or brillo algae) and Gracillaria. For more decorative algae...
  7. Mantis Shrimp on tonga rock?

absoloutely! And yes, they will scavenge food. If it is a pistol shrimp, they are harmless and won't disturb your corals or fish. They do tunnel under rocks and will push sand around a bit. If you ever positively ID it as a pistol shrimp, you can add one of the Shrimp Gobies (watchman...
  8. Mantis Shrimp on tonga rock?

Could be a mantis shrimp, more likely it is probably a pistol shrimp. If it is a mantis, you most likely would have inverts and possibly fish dissappearing. Do you ever heard sharp clicking or cracking noises in the tank?
  9. Smashey Smashey?

A lot of LFS don't actually sell 'rubble' normally, but if you ask them about it, they are usually more than willing to dig some out for you and usually at a discounted price. I made a pile of rubble in one of the back corners of my tank. I call it the 'pod palace'. It is literally swarming...
  10. ro/di units?

I second that! :D My 4 stage RODI unit and my friend's 5 stage RODI unit were both purchased there. They have decent prices and a great product. I highly recommend them!
  11. Help me choose a tank!

I have a 46g bowfront and I take great photos of stuff in the tank! Just take a look at my website. Still, it is JMHO and I would have to agree that in the larger bowfronts the degree of distortion seems to be greater. With the 'traditional' rectangular tanks, I would suggest one that is wider...
  12. my reef tank's newest inhabitants

I would agree with the 'Caulerpa going Sexual' theory. Caulerpa is nasty stuff. Don't put it in your tank or refugium. There are much safer, cleaner tupes of macroalgae that are readily available. In addition to the watch changes, I would run some carbon. That should clear it up nicely. The...
  13. Blue Palm Soft Coral? Please ID

Vitz, The only fish I have bought there are a green clown goby and catalina. The Catalina had been there for a few months hidden in the clam tank. I kept my eye on him and he's now in my tank (and has been for several months!). I mostly buy corals there. The guys are really REALLY helpful for...
  14. Blue Palm Soft Coral? Please ID

I live right down the street from Aquacon.. they have them fairly regularly and I've even seen them in a really nice earthy green color. The blue ones are gorgeous. I've wanted one also, but haven't been able to ANY info on them. This is the first I've seen about them. Going to check into them...
  15. Id clam (?) that came with a Florida Ricordea Rock

I have one of these on my mushroom rock as well. It's been there for several months.. I also figured it was some type of clam. Not sure though.
