Most Trigger Systems sumps in the 30"-34" range are built with roughly 1/4" acrylic plus reinforced top bracing. They’re generally very sturdy for that size and I haven’t seen much bowing on properly supported setups.

It looks like excess gill mucus. Fish will sometimes produce and shed mucus from their gills when they’re irritated, which can happen due to stress, minor parasites, or a recent change in water conditions.
