Ich is probably the best understood marine disease ... the only big gap in knowledge is how to safely kill it within a reef tank because the aquaculture industry that funds the research doesn't care.
Qting a fish for one week is just about useless .. that includes qting in a copper tank...
A ten gallon tank at Petco/Petsmart cost about $10 and thats the smallest tank I would place two small fish in. Don't put two fish in a 5 gallon tank.
I don't know whether AP copper test kit works with Cupramine and I suggest you Email Seachem to find out. The three test kits I know work with...
Different snails tend to eat different things .. variety sometimes help.
I keep a few nassarius & zebra snails (meat eaters .. nassarius says on the sand, zebra stays on the rocks) combined with some astrae, cerith, and margaritas (I suspect margaritas are cold water but much tougher than...
If nori doesn't work you might consider some live brine shrimp ... many captive fish don't recognize our "fish food" and LBS is a good method to transition them to frozen food. I always use LBS during QT .. helps the transition to captivity and when fish don't eat LBS then I know I have a...
The problem with ich is that a single ich can generate 100's more .. that ability to rapidly reproduce in a confined tank is what makes ich deadly. While there are lots of products which claim to be effective at eliminating ich within a show tank .. thats marketing BS .. people have been...
I agree with the fan recommendion ... until you get the fans setup just turn off the lights which are generating all that heat. Once you get the fans setup you can experiment with the number of hrs you can run the lights without running into a heat problem.
Most people drip Kalkwasser because it can raise your PH ... those who want to add kalkwasser quickly to the tank often dissolve it using some vinegar where the acid will negate the PH rise normally associated with kalkwasser. There are a number of articles on line which will specify how much...
Pickling lime is Kalkwasser.
Kalkwasser is a balanced additive ... has the same proportion of calcium and alkalinity that hard corals use when they build their skeletons. When you make Kalkwasser a small amt. may not disolve and end up on the bottom .. a crust may form after a while if your...
Kalkwasser would normally meet the typical demand of a reef that doesn't have alot of hard corals.
Adding too much/too quickly of calc or alk supplements often ends up precipitating out the very chemicals your trying to add. Adding kalk to an unbalanced tank can also give similar results...
My 02
Depends on your setup.
The std mantra in most SW forums is that a good skimmer and 1+ lb of live rock per gallon is sufficient. But that mantra is based on the use of a good skimmer combined with a sump. If you don't have both of those then you should also consider adding a cansiter or...
Balance is a relative term and I think your specs are fine.
Are you using Oceanic ... that salt is noted for having high calc, mag and a tad low on alk. If so .. most Oceanic users simply add a small amt of alk.
