  2. Calcium test lying to me?

I think my test is shot. I tested a freshly mixed Red Sea salt mix and came up with 600 mg/L at 1.021 and my tap water is coming up at 60 mg/L. I also tried the half and half thing and came up with the same 600mg/L. The kit says that it is only accurate to 500 mg/L. Maybe the test has an...
  3. The dreaded seaclone skimmer

I cut the outside connector off of the main body's feeding tube after replacing those rings like 5 times. I now have a hose siliconed in place from the base of the skimmer to the bottom of the U shaped joint on the outside of the tank. I do not get leaks anymore. If I have the air intake set to...
  4. Calcium test lying to me?

I have just tested my Calcium 2 times and cam out with Ca levels of 800+ mg/L. My pH is still running at 8.0-8.1 which suprised me because I always thought that excess Ca would mess up the pH. The test is "SeaTest" by Instant Ocean. I tested distilled water for Ca and came up with 15mg/L...
  5. Film on water

I am due for my monthly water change. Thanks for the Advice.
  6. Film on water

I have a frosted colored bubbley film on my water. I have never had this before and have changed almost nothing aside from adding livestock. In addition my bullseye mandarin is apparently trying to eat things out of this film on the top which is very odd behavior for a mandarin in my experience...
  7. Enigma

Skimmer running really wet? I have a Seaclone 150. It is a venturi style over the back type skimmer. No auto top-off. Anything is possible with water leaks but my guess is that I would see it being that I have hardwood floors and my cabinet is made of wood. Years ago I had a small leak that...
  8. Enigma

It may have been a bad reading. Usually I have to take three to four readings then tap the hydrometer to remove any airbubble that have stuck to the needle before an accurate reading is given. I usually mix the salt, let it sit for about 10 mins then take my reading making sure there is no salt...
  9. Enigma

I mixed 2 gallons of saltwater to 1.023-24 than added it to the tank.
  10. Enigma

I have had my tank running for over 4 years now and a few days ago I bought a bullseye mandarin and a foxface rabbitfish to add to my community. I had acclimated them both for about an hour as I normaly do with most of my stock. In doing so I lost about 2 gallons of water from my tank. Naturally...
  11. An unexpected announcement

Thats good news for us both. I have a Bullet Goby (3 inches) who has not been seen for 2 days. Normally he can be seen sifting sand in the front my tank where the sand is most easily accessed. Usually, if a fish dies, my skimmer goes nuts, thankfully that has not happened yet. I guess there is hope.
  12. watt for watt

Thanks Len. I was not aware that MH would be more penetrating on a deeper tank than PC.
  13. watt for watt

I have run into a situation were I can get 2 2x96 watt PC setups for a little less than 200$ (a total of 384w) or I can get a mixed hood with 2x96 PC and 1x150 MH for just under 375$ (a total of 342). What is the difference between PC watts and MH watts? I know that everyone swears by MH but do...
  14. Skimmer help

I think the Maroon I have is quite docile. Maybe its just a fluke but I have a Royal Gramma and a Blue Devil in the tank with it and have only witnessed the Royal and Damsel fighting. The Manufacturer site doesn't make anything that I could find but offered some information. Thanks for the...
  15. Mushroom Propagation

I don't think I have the gel version but I have performed this same action successfully on one of my Ricordias that I bought who was drifting along in the current in the LFS tank. The Ricordia is doing great now. I just cant figure out why the mushroom is being so tempermental when the Ricordias...
