  1. question reqarding Sun Coral

i guess i was lucky, my sun coral opened up the first night to be fed, a few stayed hidden, but by the second nigth everyone was out for a feed. Try squirting some mysis or something over them to coax them out to feed, it seems to work with mine. the tubastrea is difficult only if you dont...

no im worried about my ph overall. its just I was told xenia's are usually good at telling you when theres something wrong in your tank. I wnat to beable to maintain the ph at 8.3-8.5 not 7.8-8.0 . thx for the link btw :)
  3. ph problems..help!

I have been able to maintain my ph above 7.8. It maintained at 8.2 for 3 days, so I added some corals. My ph has now for a few days sat at 7.8. I am going to add fans to the top to make more waves to encourage gas exchange, as I heard this hilps to raise ph. I have two pumps, one pushing...

i changed the salt while the tank was cycling to a cheaper one which dropped the ph to 7.8-8.0, I am going to change the water today with the reef salt again tonight, see how it goes. the smell is gone and the tanks in the cycling process, I am adding a little more rock today
  5. featherduster id

i had many of the common featherdusters in my tank, a population of over 20 on one rock which are white with brown stripes, but my fav feather duster is a single lonely feller, he is the most beautiful too. I found a picture of what he looks like, anyone know what it is called and how big they grow?
  6. little white bugs?

looks like maybe a female copepod with an egg sack, as the white speck beside it resembles very much like the calanoid copepod try this for reference
  7. visible bacteria? (picture added)

heres a picture i circled two areas of concern. the yellow circle is one rock which was already covered in the cobwebbing bacteria, it has recently gotten alot thicker and more white. the orange spot is a new area which last night, wasnt that dense or big. It has spread on that rock...
  8. visible bacteria? (picture added)

i did do dailys until a few days ago when the smell finally dissapeared, so i decided to just finally let it be to cycle, I did a 97% water change today, the ammonia went from 8.0 down between 1.0-2.0 the white film, or bacteria, is still growing on the dead parts on the rocks. So long as its...
  9. visible bacteria? (picture added)

no its not dead stuff, as its growing on the dead stuff, and there is enough flow as i can see the flow in the water, this white film looks like hair or something, it blows in the flow and just seems to keep growing. In the last two days it has covered two rocks and partial areas on the other...
  10. visible bacteria? (picture added)

I questioned my lfs about this fine whitish film growing over the rocks where there was dead stuff, they told me it was bacteria. I now have a few rocks covered in this white film, mostly over dead stuff again, but two rocks are almost completely covered in this bacterial film. I am curious...

  12. smelly water?

they all died when the ammonia went up, beleive me, nothing survived.. ammonia is at 2.o, before the tank remake, it was at 1.0 and rising due to everything dying. i only brushed off the dead things on the rock, leaving the algae on the rock. ph is at 8.8 too.. now, before i had a problem of...
  13. smelly water?

I had an issue where i added live rock to my tank and it caused the water to smell of rot, so i removed all the water/sand rock , put the rock in a tub, cleaned the tank added fresh salt water and sand, scrubbed the rock. now a few hrs later the water is starting to smell again, even though i...
  14. help? tank crash?

i wouldnt call it a fast fix :P as I am sure if i do it like this i will need to wait a little longer for the cycle.. i thought adding a dead shrimp would boost the bacteria population? is that bad? I am planning a reef tank, both corals and fish. not too many. as the tank itself is only 20...
