This has happened to me a few time over the years with different skimmer. Every time it happened either the skimmer needed to be cleaned or some odd was going on with my water. WC and fresh carbon always fixed the second issue.

I have some parts hanging around for that pump. send me a pic of what's leaking. We maybe able to fix the pump you have.

Having it in too high a water level may cause it to overflow or skim Wet. Having it in too low a water level may cause the pump to suck in air from a vortex or cause the skimmer to skim too dry. At least that's my understanding.
