1. Has anyone ever done one of those shark dives?

I went on a couple of "shark dives" in French Polynesia. At one point we were surrounded by at least a couple dozen black tip reef sharks, most between 4 and 5 feet long. Was kind of unnerving until I remembered that their level of aggression can be determined by their pectoral fin position...
2. A simple, effective Aiptasia control method

And BTW, I'll have to try this!! I have some severe aiptasia problems. One that bothers me most is growing near the foot of a clam. Any ideas on getting this bugger??

4. Starfish I .D

I don't know what it is but I DO know that it's NOT a serpent star!!
5. frog and bubble meet

The bubble tip can and will move if it's being bothered.
6. nipple up or nipple down?

I thought the Advanced Aquarist article summed it up pretty well...
7. Possible coral and tree like thing?

The top one sure sounds a lot like a candy cane or trumpet coral (which send out colorless tentacles with a white spot on the end when feeding, which mine do only in the dark) and the lower one sounds like it might be a gorgonian of some sort. Hard to say for sure, though, as neither of these...
8. Anenome split/reproduce?

Yep, that's DEFINITELY a bubble tip anemone, aka Entamacea quadricolor. It also looks like it's lost its zooxanthellae! I've been feeding one for around a year now that's lost its zooxanthellae after it split; it's growing slowly, but it IS growing!
9. Clams

If it's pulling away from the sides of its shell, it'll probably die no matter what you do. However, it's always nice to try to help a critter in trouble! I noticed you're dosing calcium; are you doing anything to maintain alkalinity? Without a good buffer system, the calcium ions can't get...
10. S. A .T

No. What is S.A.T.? I'm assuming it's not the Standard Academic Test we all took in high school to see if we were smart enough to get into college.
11. Bubble Algae and Aiptasia

quote:
Originally posted by scubamook: try adding a foxface - mine seem to eat the varments

Which varmints are those? Aiptasia? My foxface doesn't TOUCH aiptasia but chows down...

13. Poll-polyfilter tap water filter system

I run my tap water through a polyfilter about 18 hours (more or less) before adding to the tank. I still have an algae problem, though, so don't know if it helps! Since my tap water comes from a limestone aquafer I prefer not to "strip" it of all its granduer; it is chock full of calcium and...
14. Anyone interested in a reefkeeping simulator?

Sounds kinda fun; do I get to pick lighting and a budget, too?
15. Help, Alkalinity still climbing!!

My understanding is that as calcium levels go up, alkalinity tends to go down. Try using something like Turbo Calcium or other brand of straight calcium supplement to increase your calcium to the 420 range. Then adjust your reactor to lower the alkalinity it's producing. (Since I don't run...
