I went on a couple of "shark dives" in French Polynesia. At one point we were surrounded by at least a couple dozen black tip reef sharks, most between 4 and 5 feet long. Was kind of unnerving until I remembered that their level of aggression can be determined by their pectoral fin position...

And BTW, I'll have to try this!! I have some severe aiptasia problems. One that bothers me most is growing near the foot of a clam. Any ideas on getting this bugger??

The top one sure sounds a lot like a candy cane or trumpet coral (which send out colorless tentacles with a white spot on the end when feeding, which mine do only in the dark) and the lower one sounds like it might be a gorgonian of some sort. Hard to say for sure, though, as neither of these...

Yep, that's DEFINITELY a bubble tip anemone, aka Entamacea quadricolor. It also looks like it's lost its zooxanthellae! I've been feeding one for around a year now that's lost its zooxanthellae after it split; it's growing slowly, but it IS growing!

If it's pulling away from the sides of its shell, it'll probably die no matter what you do. However, it's always nice to try to help a critter in trouble! I noticed you're dosing calcium; are you doing anything to maintain alkalinity? Without a good buffer system, the calcium ions can't get...

My understanding is that as calcium levels go up, alkalinity tends to go down. Try using something like Turbo Calcium or other brand of straight calcium supplement to increase your calcium to the 420 range. Then adjust your reactor to lower the alkalinity it's producing. (Since I don't run...
