Once again I apologize if I offended anyone. I never compared purchasing farm raised fish to dead dolphins I just said that if they were going to come at this from a conservation point of view then they should look at the whole picture and make other adjustments in their lives that would...
I would like to say I find the position of everyone here who supports captive raised purchasing admirable. I just don't think it's always feasible for someone on a budget. When this situation arises I would like to point out that the alternative exists for buy from a responsible retailer who...

ChrisRD:
I agree. Now what are you doing about the runoff and the dead oceanic mammals?
I agree that paying a small premium is OK for captive raised or responsibly collected is OK. But if you think these guys are going to lower their prices when more people buy you're mistaken. Just ask...
LOL no they probably aren't but there has to be a way for them to turn a profit and still let us enjoy the beauty of the hobby. I don't think that the price difference should be so great. They both have expenses just different kinds. It's just hard for me to accept that captive bred deserves...
Do any of you eat SeaFood? Do you eat produce that's not organically grown? If you answered yes to any of the above I could say the same about you. I'm all for buying captive raised but at a reasonable price when compared to wild caught. Yes $18 isn't a lot of money but it's $8 more than the...
I guess you gueys are going to stop eating fish now:

Matt,
It's fine to say buy tank raised but how can you say how can you afford a tank? The tank is the cheapest piece of equipment I have running right now next to my pumps.
I know when I first started in the saltwater side of this hobby I was blown away by the amount of equipment and the...
PCs are out of the question because I think the bulbs are too expensive and not sturdy enough. As for the VHO, I thought about that but the MH unit I have is made by Coralife and has a special connector. If I were to buy the VHO ballast unit from them it would only power 2 VHO bulbs and cost...
I'm going to try the 20K bulbs and see how that works out. If I still don't like them then I'll switch over to VHO next year. My wife would have a fit anyway If I bought a new lighting system after only one year with this one that I just had to have.
Nice pics Guys. I hope I can get my tank...
I was thinking of buying the XM 20K bulbs from Hello Lights but I thought that for the $65 each they'd cost me I could buy the Hello Lights VHO retro Kit and spend a little extra for the bulbs. How long do MH bulbs last? It's been almost a year now and when one of my bulbs starts it's a red...
I have a 75 gallon tank with 2 x 175 w 6500K MH 2x40w actinic NO. When I look at the tanks of other hobbyist with VHO or PC lighting their corals all flouresce and are very colorful. In my tank those same types of corals and even some frags look plain and colorless. I'm thinking of tossing...
mountainbiker69,
Do you know if the mag pumps can be run inline instead of submersed? I was told by others that it could be but wasn't recommended. I was never told why it wasn't recommended. The product description says it can be used inline. Why are people telling me it shouldn't be...
The tank is 75 gallons, the pump would be located approximately 4 feet from the return which would enter the tank just below the water's surface at the top. I was thinking 5x turnover. The tank is drilled at the back for the closed loop and is reef ready as well.
