Bristle Worms!
Leave them alone. They're part of the life of a reef tank, they probably came in on some live rock, and are beneficial detritus eaters and sand bed stirrers.

"Worm-type thing" Question
Sounds like spaghetti worms. A good thing to have lots of in one's tank. What you're seeing are its exposed tentacles. The head and body are hidden.
