  1. TUNZE Users, I have a question

Andy, Where did you order your 6100's from - everyone seems to be on backorder. Thanks, Mack
  2. LED lighting: Let the hype begin!

I guarantee you the average reef keeper will not be able to afford this "investment" - at least initially. Well, then again :) Low wattage LED clusters (used to replace an incandescent PAR lamp) are between $75 and $100. If you crunch the numbers (lamp replacements over life of LED) the...
  3. Will ick just run its course or is it better to treat it?

We recently had a "planned" power outtage (Utility Co Working On Lines) that lasted 10 hrs. The only operative equip was 2 battery air pumps. Temp dropped from the norm 82 to around 75. This caused the tangs in my 180 to get ich. I fed with garlic soaked food and all tangs are free from ich...
  4. Coral Bleaching is Not Only Caused by Heat Stress

I have experienced some bleaching with a couple of my original species. I ran 400w Iwasaki's for the first 18 months, with great growth and acceptable coloration based on the 6500's. I decided about 3-4 months ago that I wanted to aesthetically improve my tank so I replaced the 6.5KK's with...
  5. The fame of the Beckett injector

I might as well share my recent experiment. I'd been running a beckett on my 180 for about 2 yrs using a MAK4. It performed great. I recently decided to put a second skimmer on system - so I bought a downdraft skimmer (I'm not mentioning any names). I installed the downdraft and retained the...
  6. New Pics

Thanks! Hey, although my SPS's aren't as fully colored as I'd like 'em, I can never get true colors on my pics. I have an Olympus C3030 and is capable. Any thoughts. My pics always look like they are drab and glared out. I'm not much of a photographer and I let the camera go on auto without...
  7. New Pics

Here are some pics from today of my 180. Tank is viewable from 3 sides. I recently switched from (3) 400W 6.5K's to (3) 400W 10K's. No actinics are used with 10K's in pics. Tank is about 1yr, 10mos old. http://www.personal.psu.edu/mwm6/full.JPG http://www.personal.psu.edu/mwm6/leftfront1.JPG...
  8. Korallin Kalkreaktor Bubble Rate

What are the pressure readings on the CO2 regulator?
  9. Lots of pictures of my 180 gallon tank.

Hi Rich..... Nice Pics, tank looks really nice. I see you still have your 10K's on-line. I just changed my 6.5K's to 10K's about a month ago. I'm seeing some very strange results - for instance the M Caps I got from Sanjay have really started to grow faster - my blue tip Acros are gaining...
  10. New Ushio 10k MH-different look

You need to allow a minimum of 100 hrs of burn-in time with halides for the lamp CCT to become stable. If it is still acting as it is after this, return it. Mack
  11. Looking for ideas on incorporating a tank...

http://www.personal.psu.edu/mwm6/p2200016.jpg This is a 180 viewable from (3) sides. The big screen is a 57". Make sure you don't get the tank in a direct reflective view of the big screen - that's why I have them side-by-side. Otherwise, screen will be washed-out. Good Luck - and have fun! Mack
  12. So Frustrated...Algae problems

slojmn1, Well, I couldn't believe your pic when I first opened the link.... I've had the same growth in my 180 for the past 12-13 months. Mine isn't quite as thick, but it's primarily brown short growth and not pleasing to the eye! I'm almost convinced that my calcium reactor is causing this...
  13. SPS Keepers!!! We need your help!!

I've seen this almost exclusively (similar looking anyway) on the skeletons of SPS where the tissue has recently died-off or is in the process of receeding and RTN. I can only assume that these are scavengers as I have never seen any on the live tissues of my SPS. I too would like to know if...
  14. 400W revolution, show me the light!

You can dim power compacts and metal halide lamps. It's not very cost effective, however, unless you have the extra cash. The equipment to do so isn't manufactured by any of the hobbies OEM's.
  15. Octopus 3000 or Neptune????

I have an original Aquacontroller. Bought back in 97 I believe. Still works great, virtually unlimited programming capability.... For instance, i have mine controlling the entire system - lghts, main pumps, powerheads, dosing pumps, CO2, chiller, cooling fans, etc. Programming allows personal...
