JustPhish,
What you need to research is EFFICIENCY. Are T5's MORE or LESS efficient than Metal Halide?
What ever you end up doing, go with the most efficient lighting method. That's my opinion. :)
Sfsuphysics,
Yes you are err'ing on the side of caution; which is just fine by me. I understand completely. Thanks for the hint/tip. It could save someone their home!
To make sure that my mogul socket is making good contact I bend the inner prong outwards (it also has a spring in it) so that I...
Louey!!! hehehehe....
I get the "Well I'll be!", but now I don't get the Ducks part!!! Do all people in Florida talk in code? :)
ANEMONEBUFF,
Fantastic!!! You are lucky! Glad to hear that it works fine for you with the nipples down. :)

Do any of you have yellow XM bulbs that you are disappointed in? Maybe someone else would like to give it a try?
All I can say is that it worked for me! :)
-Nathan
I have a regular standard mogul socket that I bought from Marine Depot. At the back of the socket you will find a metal prong. Bend the prong outwards a little. Then screw the bulb in, but not to the point where it stops; you want to make sure that the prong makes contact with the base of the...
Louey,
(What is LIB?)
Nipple orientation is not hogwash; that was a myth created by an article written some time ago. Personally I believe that for some bulbs, nipple orientation is critical to a correct burn, regardless of any article written "Nipple None-sense"...
ANEMONEBUFF,
Actually...
I solved the problem!!! Click this link to see!!

Here is what my tank looks like today after my nipple fix!!!

Nipple Schmipple eh?! :)
Well to my relief, I fixed the problem of my yellow XM bulbs by slightly tweaking the nipple orientation! Now all of my bulbs are very bright and super white; no yellow at all! These bulbs have been burned in for one week at 10 hours per day on a PFO Standard Ballast...
Len,
Is your nipple up or down on your bulb? And what ballast are you using? Mine is PFO Standard (M59).
sfsuphysics,
I know that nipple up/down does play a major factor with some bulbs.
See my old Ushio's, left is nipple up, right is nipple down:
Also see this one.
I took those...
What is the "break-in" time for XM 10K 400W and 175W bulbs?
(I know the standard saying is 100 hours of use, but what are your experiences with colour change during those first hours?)
I got mine last week (Friday). Plugged them in and they were white, but after 2 hours they went yellowish...
Rubber is better than cork and mat.
I bought some of that "workshop floor rubber mat" sometimes referred to as "anti-fatigue mat" at Home Depot. It cuts neatly and looks something like this:
It's cheap and works like a champ!

Dan,
Awesome.
So you think I may need to go for a Aqua C EV 180, instead of the Aqua C EV 120?
Your setup sounds cool. What do you use as a return pump to the main tank?
