  1. My LR is weird

I got some Marshall Island rock and it is as you described. I've had it for about a month along with some florida LR. Coralline is slowly gorwing on it now. But I like it as it has a lot of caves and crevices for fish and shrimp to hide in.
  2. Anyone ever order from saltwaterfish.com?

I am thinking about order some fish and inverts from salwaterfish.com. Has anyone ordered from them and what was your experience with them?
  3. best place to buy live rock

I ended up getting LR from TBS and some Marshall and Tonga from the LFS. The TBS rock was full of life with lots of sponges, corals, tube worms, clams, anemones, coralline algae. I did however get a mantis shrimp that I luckily trapped, 3 small red crabs similar to emeralds, and 2 small hairy...
  4. Tang heaven or chaetomorphae for refugium

I will be starting a small hang off the top refugium for my 72 gal tank that currently only has live rock, snails, hermits, shrimps, crabs, sponges, corals, and tubeworms. I was wondering if anyone has used Tang heaven from IndoPacific Sea Farms in the refugium as a nitrate reducer and...
  5. Live rock, Florida aquacultured or Fiji/Tonga is best

Sorry the picture files were too big. I'll have to manipulate them. Or if you want email me your email address and I'll email them to you.
  6. Live rock, Florida aquacultured or Fiji/Tonga is best

Here are some pictures of my tank as some people have asked to see it. I hope the pictures come out ok.[/img]
  7. Live rock, Florida aquacultured or Fiji/Tonga is best

Hooray, I finally caught the little bugger! This morning I poked at his hole with a skewer then stopped to see if he would come out. He came out within a few seconds and I chased him with a net. By blind luck he swam right into the trap and I scooped him and the trap out of the tank. If...
  8. Space Shuttle Columbia down...

This will go down as one of those days that you remember what you were doing when you heard the news. God bless all the astronauts and their families.
  9. Live rock, Florida aquacultured or Fiji/Tonga is best

Well I just want to update you on what happened. I ended up getting 50lbs of LR from Tampa Bay Saltwater. The rocks were nicer than I expected as they had some caves and crevices and were really loaded with life. There were many clams, sponges, feather dusters, christmas tree worms, corals...
  10. brand of saltwater mixes

Well I called TBS and explained the situation. Richard the owner recommended holding off on shipping the LR and I agreed. Mary the sales person also recommended that I start over with new water, maybe even spring water. I forgot to say I also put Prime conditioner into the water this AM...
  11. replacement water

Can you use bottled or bulk spring water? Different people have told me different things. Some say don't use spring water because of the minerals. Others say it's better than city treated tap water. I have tested my tap water and it tested positive for ammonia. So I probably won't use tap...
  12. brand of saltwater mixes

Wow! Thanks, LFS42, you were right! I checked the ammonia level of my newly mixed tank water and it measured 0.25 ppm by the red sea ammonia test. I never would have thought to check the mix and would have thought it was the tank cycling. I threw in some right now bacteria last night. My...
  13. replacement water

What kind of water do you use? R/O or D/I? I've talk to many people who use either tap water or "spring water" with conditioners added. I just started my tank and I used a D/I filter. I'm wondering if I could use water from my refrigerator water filter that filters out sediment and uses...
  14. brand of saltwater mixes

I'm curious to see what other people use for their saltwater mixes. I recently found a website www.aquacraft.net that publishes a e-newsletter that published a study of the content of the various saltwater mixes on the market. The top 3 mixes are made by their company. The report is very...
  15. Stocking of tank

I am not set on the number or types of fish. Those I mentioned were ones that seem to appeal to me. I know in reef tanks you need to stock less but I thought if you had more live rock you would have adequate biofiltration to sustain more fish. But I guess maybe fewer large fish? I may not...
