  1. is coral beauty reef safe?

I've had 3 over the years that never caused any trouble other than the occasional and quite lethal urge to see "what's on the other side".
  2. Anemone Experts: Lights for BTA

I have a BTA in a 55. Did OK for a few months under my 6 X 40W NO but turned brown. I upgraded to 6 X 55W PC, but it's still brown (though a lighter shade), though healthy and growing.
  3. Sunlight from windows -- good or bad?

The only bad possibility I can think of is the (not inconsiderable) extra heat.
  4. Does anybody knows if wax pelets are reef safe?

Styro peanuts sounds like a great idea! Or how about just crumbled styro, in little pea sized bits?
  5. lifespan of a cleaner shrimp

I've heard 3 years, but I have no idea if that's from a reliable source.
  6. Science Alliance = No one there?

Same thing for me, with no charge to my credit card. I'm wondering if they don't want to sell to individuals. But if so, I'd expect an email back.
  7. Cleaner Shrimps

I can guarrantee that you do have a mating pair! They are hermaphroditic - each has both male & female equipment, and they take turns. What happens is, each gets pregnant shortly after shedding, gives birth in about two weeks (this can vary greatly). Keep watching - in another week or so the...
  8. San Fran - any good stores?

Nippon on Geary has best selection, Lucky Ocean on about 2nd & Balboa is small but owner is knowledgeable & friendly, worth a look, sometimes has strange stuff.
  9. Wavemakers ?

I've heard that the oscillators clog up fast, but have no personal experience there. I use the Red Sea wavemaker. Works fine except most powerheads make a lot of noise when starting up, so there was a loud chatter every 20/30 seconds when the wavemaker turned one on. Until I switched to Maxi...
  10. Is the LOA light flourescent or halogen?

Besides being inefficient, halogens put out the wrong spectrum for photosynthesis, making them useless to corals & algae.
  11. A simple, effective Aiptasia control method

Pojohnny- "2N" is what you're looking for. Try this link.
  12. A simple, effective Aiptasia control method

Thanks, BReefCase, you are the man!
  13. A simple, effective Aiptasia control method

Every place I've checked calls it "restricted". Any ideas how a non-scientist can get ahold of some?
  14. A simple, effective Aiptasia control method

Would this be a good way to get rid of the line of mushrooms slowly advancing on my anemone?
  15. powder brown tang (Acanthurus japonicus ) questions

I have a powder brown. Never any ich, eats everything (except nori soaked in zoe... but that's for another thread). Can't say how hardy he is, I haven't stressed him much water quality wise, though I've moved the tank twice.] That being said, it's probably a bad idea to put three tangs in a 90...
