What if the professor who has the permit gets fired? What if the research facility hedges on thier taxes? So in your eye's the person issuing the permit should know if any of this is going to happen?

So your saying that the permit holder should only house the corals in a facility he/she owns? Or that the person issuing the permit should know that the relationship between the permit holder and the facility where whatever tests/experiments are being held will never go bad? That seems a little...

well, you could always calm said customer down by offering a 14 day warranty, with pre tested water, 24 hour warranty without :). That would satisfy even the experienced hobbyist "taken back" by the request... Patrick

I think you hit the nail on the head. I also think that in many cases(not all of course!), a hobbyist tends to be a bit more informed about the animal they are buying on-line, as opposed to at a LFS. You don't come across a e-tail driving down the street and go in and buy a fish on a whim...

That would be fine from this hobbyist's point of veiw. Now, lets have the same standards for wholesalers selling to B&M's and such. In fact, why stop there, how about from the collector to the wholesaler? PK

And again, another generalization. I watched a local B & M acclimate a shipment of fish,coral, and inverts--float for temp, cut the bags and dump them right on in to the tank. Of course I know not all acclimate this way though. Patrick

If a fish can not survive the trip from a LFS to a hobbyist's home, it wasn't fit to be sold in the first place. Of course, extreme circumstances like dropping the fish in a the parking lot, are the exception, not the norm. "and the lowly B&M can't even get reimbursed for the DOAs they get...

danieldm, I don't doubt what you say about shipping times. In your 1st post you compare all e-tail to B&M..specifically your B&M, that was my only issue. Patrick

Mark, I understand where you are coming from completely. When I read your 1st post in this thread, it comes of as a generalization of e-tailers, and B&M's. My point was, that your experience in ordering livestock, and probably the majority of LFS owners here on RDO...is not the same as all or...
