  1. Eric Borneman coral controversy

And I'm glad your not in charge of issuing permits :) The permit also states that the Reef Savers is technically able to care for the advanced needs of the corals, and that going into detail about the facility was beyond the scope of the permit, and any questions about the site he would be...
  2. Eric Borneman coral controversy

It looks to me like he was doing exactly what his permit stated he was going to do? The permit application says what he's going to do. Culture the coral to provide specimens for lab research. Did the permit office assume the lab specimens would be free to anyone who wanted them? Or did they...
  3. Eric Borneman coral controversy

What if the professor who has the permit gets fired? What if the research facility hedges on thier taxes? So in your eye's the person issuing the permit should know if any of this is going to happen?
  4. Eric Borneman coral controversy

So your saying that the permit holder should only house the corals in a facility he/she owns? Or that the person issuing the permit should know that the relationship between the permit holder and the facility where whatever tests/experiments are being held will never go bad? That seems a little...
  5. Eric Borneman coral controversy

    Why should that matter?
  6. Eric Borneman coral controversy

This has been asked a few times with no answer. Why in earth would someone who was "stealing" corals give a detailed inventory list to the people he was supposedly stealing them from? I also find it ridiculous that some people on here suggest it's not appropriate to question the motive or...
  7. The Irony

well, you could always calm said customer down by offering a 14 day warranty, with pre tested water, 24 hour warranty without :). That would satisfy even the experienced hobbyist "taken back" by the request... Patrick
  8. The Irony

Also a good way to increase sales of dry goods, to fix those problems, and a good Business practice IMO. When do you plan on moving your store to Chicago :) ?? Patrick
  9. The Irony

I think you hit the nail on the head. I also think that in many cases(not all of course!), a hobbyist tends to be a bit more informed about the animal they are buying on-line, as opposed to at a LFS. You don't come across a e-tail driving down the street and go in and buy a fish on a whim...
  10. The Irony

That would be fine from this hobbyist's point of veiw. Now, lets have the same standards for wholesalers selling to B&M's and such. In fact, why stop there, how about from the collector to the wholesaler? PK
  11. The Irony

And again, another generalization. I watched a local B & M acclimate a shipment of fish, coral, and inverts--float for temp, cut the bags and dump them right on in to the tank. Of course I know not all acclimate this way though. Patrick
  12. The Irony

If a fish can not survive the trip from a LFS to a hobbyist's home, it wasn't fit to be sold in the first place. Of course, extreme circumstances like dropping the fish in a the parking lot, are the exception, not the norm. "and the lowly B&M can't even get reimbursed for the DOAs they get...
  13. How do B&M get their fish?

danieldm, I don't doubt what you say about shipping times. In your 1st post you compare all e-tail to B&M..specifically your B&M, that was my only issue. Patrick
  14. How do B&M get their fish?

Mark, I understand where you are coming from completely. When I read your 1st post in this thread, it comes of as a generalization of e-tailers, and B&M's. My point was, that your experience in ordering livestock, and probably the majority of LFS owners here on RDO...is not the same as all or...
  15. The Irony

Thanks for the clarification Rascal. If I were a new customer to your store, and you told me that...well I'm sure you know what most reactions would be. In these times, it does not take much to loose a customer for good. Everyone wants to save a buck, loyalty is hard to find. Every little bit...
