  1. Light Shopping for 75g

I've had several recommendations for those Viparspectras and I'm seriously considering them now.
  2. Light Shopping for 75g

    48 x 18 x 21.
  3. Light Shopping for 75g

So I made a list. How does one decide? Ai hydra 32 maybe over budget Ai Prime 16 Nicrew 150w Viparspectra USA Orbit Marine PopBloom Kessil (over budget) Others? I like the mounting arms of some of these as opposed to holes in my ceiling.
  4. Light Shopping for 75g

So I've been out of the hobby for about 16 years. A lot has changed. I'm about to finish cycling a 75g that will be a mixed reef, 3 or 4 fish, kind of thing. Need lighting recommendations primarily for softies and lps. Looking at Ai Prime 16 (3 of them), Viparspectra 165w (Amazon blue-light...
  5. RODI Brands

Very impressive and also very helpful. Thank you for sharing that info!
  6. RODI Brands

Reviews on rodi systems are lacking in positives. Any preferred systems out there? And any comment on the Aquaticlife Buddie? Tank is 36g reef. I do see that universal cartridges will not work, but I like the portability.
  7. New Era Lights

So, I've made a few posts indicating I have not been in the hobby for the past 16 years or so. Lots of experience back then, but lots has changed! Then, the going light systems were compact florescent and metal halide for decent coral lighting. What has changed and what are the best options...
  8. Filter Brand and Type

So, starting up 36 nano. Filter shopping and will have to purchase online. Need suggestions for best filter. Bio ball medium or other? Will HOB filter work for this size tank? Lighting options would be helpful as well, and where to shop. Mainly soft, lps and couple of fish. Thanks.
  9. Testing Salinity (Easy) (Opinion)

One of the reasons I want to keep a hydrometer on hand is due to the circumstances of the country. I try not to use things that require special ordering (such as calibrating fluid), in case of a disruption in supply chains or difficulties with online ordering. I try to make sure I can purchase...
  10. Testing Salinity (Easy) (Opinion)

Thanks for the replies. The salinity meter sounds like a good option, and yes a hydrometer for back up. I appreciate the responses, things and products have changed quite a bit. Hobby has always been pricey but that's part of it. (y)
  11. Testing Salinity (Easy) (Opinion)

So, I used to have multiple saltwater aquariums, both fish only and reefs. Kept them about 15 years. That said, it's been about 15 years since I've had a tank of any kind. Obviously MUCH has changed. I am getting ready to start a nano, either a 29 or 36 (haven't decided) and am gathering...
  12. Algae relief and lights?

That's an excellent reply Sponge and I totally agree....I like around 80 degrees, but I don't fall apart if it gets warmer. But, as you said, you have to choose species that can tolerate the temps you keep. I mentioned in my post that all my snails were gone...well, those were carribean...
  13. Algae relief and lights?

Thank you so much for the help. At first, I suspected cyano, but this is not a film, just particles.....everywhere! I believe you're right that it is diatoms....I just always have brown on my mind and had forgotten there are other colors of diatoms...After taking down all my tanks and selling...
  14. Algae relief and lights?

I'm working on a 55-gal reef, set up approx. 8 months. (I've been at this awhile (10+ years), but never had MH lighting until now. I always used PC's. In setting up this 55, I purchased a dual 250-watt system with batwing reflectors and also purchased pendants in which to mount them (the tank...
  15. MH light trying, but can't....what now????? Emergency?

Lights are NOT ok afterall. It's taking from 2-3 hours for them to finally fire and come on. I've ordered two new 250-watt 20K's and hope that will fix the problem. They just flicker and go out, flicker and go out. I turn them off awhile at the ballast, then turn them on...they try to fire...
