  1. are these things tiny jelly fish??

just googled them, the free swimming form looks right, but I don't really see any of the fan type that they describe as attached to the rock. I"m not too sure I like the sound of stinging either....... (breaks out the rubber gloves that go all the way to my neck)
  2. are these things tiny jelly fish??

ok, no pics of them because they are quite small and only seem to grace my water column with their presence at night. they are about 1/8" across and shaped just like a "birdy" in badmitten. so when they "swim" they have a conical shape and squeeze their feathery/tentacle/leg things together...
  3. need ID (with pics) star, anemone, or urchine?

thanks guy, gaging by the other types of hitchikers I have it definately is gulf rock. don't urchines have spines pointing out? these only seem to be flat against the rock......
  4. need ID (with pics) star, anemone, or urchine?

I have had guesses of a type of starfish, an anemone or an urchine. it moves around the rock slowly, but doesn't really seem to be moving it's tentacles much. I cant tell if they are hard or soft. it's dark brown (as you can see) and a little larger than the head of an eraser.
  5. Need help with this.....

there are a couple of them on most of the pieces of live rock that he bought to put in the sump. luckily, he did a very good job of setting the sump up and there is a filter between the pumps and the live rock. putting the shrimp in there wouldn't be an issue from that standpoint. how many of...
  7. Need help with this.....

hey, this is my brothers tank. I'm pretty sure that it's a glass anemone. It's in his sump, would peppermint shrimp survive in the sump without any lighting? what about the anemones? don't they have some sort of light requirement? what would you do with the peppermint shrimp after they ate the...
  8. 15G nano with a 10g sump

okay, so in reference to questions 4 and 5: he is using a maxijet 900 to pump 3' up from the sump tank to the display tank, this seems a little insufficient so we are planning on replacing that powerhead with something a little larger. you state turnover in the sump should be 10-15x tank...
  9. 15G nano with a 10g sump

hey guys, I'm posting this for my brother. He has had a 15 gallon FOWLR for about 3 years. he has a HOB filter, about 15lbs of LR, LS. He has three fish in it right now, 2 clowns and a dottyback. He just recently added a 10G sump with a protein skimmer. the sump pickup in the 15 also has a...
