  1. Lighting Guru's - Help

I just inherited two ballasts. I really want to figure out how to get these ballasts to work because they were free (my favorite kind of ballast). Hereis the problem: The first one is a magnetic VHO ballast made by Advance. It's rated for 2 48" T12's or a single 96 or 72 inch lamp. I can...
  2. DFW LFS's,,,any recommendations?

Dallas North Aquarium is a nice place.....it's pricey though
  3. Acrylic to Glass

Great. This contradicts what i was told but i didn't see why it wouldn't work. I plan on making my own sum from a glass tank and covering my glass overflow with black acrylic so it looks better. I just wanted to make sure it would hold. Thanks, Ron
  4. Acrylic to Glass

What's the best way to attach acrylic to glass without having to worry about it eventually coming off? Silicone? I have heard that silicone will not adhere to the Acrylic very well. Thanks, Ron
  5. West Texas

Is there a reef/aquaria club in the West Texas area? Thanks, Ron
  6. LFS - Dallas/Ft. Worth Area

I am going to be in Dallas this week and haven't been there in a couple years. Have any new nice shops opened up? Any older ones improved? Thanks, Ron
  7. Night Lighting for reef tank

You can use standard incandescent general purpose bulbs...like the ones in your house (lamps, ceiling fans, etc.). You can get everyhting you need (socket, bulbs, etc) at Home Depot or Lowe's. You can also throw a red one in there for night time viewing or recon work to find that bastard...
  8. pic of overflow - prev peculiar overflow design

aaaahaaaaa! That makes perfect sense. Maybe he/she wasn't crazy after all. I'm glad I posted this. Now I have to make up my mind if I want it or not........ Thanks a million, Ron
  9. should bulkhead be siliconed?

Good point. The largest I have used is 1.5"....guess I should have mentioned that.
  10. pic of overflow - prev peculiar overflow design

Guess I should have taken another pic....sorry. Yes, drilled holes on either side of the divider. The reason I brought this up is that the right side had to be the intake and the left had to be return and I just couldn't figure out why there was a divider in there....... Someone took the...
  11. pic of overflow - prev peculiar overflow design

Yes it does. It must be the return. What I find interesting is that it's sectioned off with that divider. It's just wasted space.....a return chamber full of air.....why?
  12. should bulkhead be siliconed?

Ive seen recommendations to silicone gaskets. Honestly though, I have never done it and never had a problem. I do use teflon tape on my threads though.
  13. pic of overflow - prev peculiar overflow design

Nope. Just the inlet and two holes drilled in the bottom of the tank (one for each side of the overflow).
  14. pic of overflow - prev peculiar overflow design

Here is a pic of the overflow I discribed in the previous thread. The overflow continues as it is with no openings to the bottom of the tank. I am now planning to rip out the divider with a makeshift tuning fork and guitar string. That is unless someone can tell me why it's there????? I...
  15. Peculiar Overflow Design

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that water is not transferred from box to box. They are completely independant of one another. The divider in the middle runs from the bottom of the tank all the way to the top. The only way to get water in that box is from the sump. That's why I'm...
