esmithii, i am doing a 150gal with 2x400w MH and 2x5ft VHO. I have had people tell me that the Actinic PC's arnt powerful enought to balance out the MH. I too was going to do 2x96w PC, but have seen pictures and i think that the VHO's do a better job of balancing out the POWERFUL 400w MH's...

The overflow is a corner one. It is maybe 5"x5" and is clear on the back side, which would be one of the viewing sides. I dont want to have to watch the overflow when i view the tank. I was considering one of those Lifereef hang on overflows. Anyone else?

I was considering placing the 150 gal that i am setting up perpendicular to the wall, i.e. at a right angle. The tank would jut out 5 feet from the wall. Does anyone have a tank like this? The prob is that it is a RR tanks so it has the built in over flow and bulkhead hole. Can this be...

Wow thanks for the info Skylsdale. I will probbably try 6 common firefish. I have read Fenners Conscientious Marine Aquariast and he says to follow the 20gal per fish rule also. I will definately check out that aqualink page. Man you guys are great. Thanks again!

srbayless, do you have 2 or 3 of the 400w 10k bulbs? In terms of energy consumption and color spectrum, which would be better: the 250w Iwasaki's with 4x96w PC actinic or 3400w 10k HQI?

Hmmm...that lighting might be a bit week....your best chance of success would be with some good MH lighting...your alk and calc levels are pretty good...might try to keep the calc a little higher....definately read Knops book....

Well, i would think that after nearly 3 months, the maxima, one of the more sensitive clams, would have let you know if tank conditions were unacceptable. If they are both opening fully and showing good color, then they should be healthy. Describe your system; i.e., lighting, tank size...

Im not sure i understand how these sea swirl things work...The sump return pump pumps the water through the sea swirl device? So isnt it just like a BIG powerhead? So you could use maybe 2 sea swirls (am also setting up a 180 gal) instead of a dozen powerheads?

I didnt think that 6500k 250w Iwasakis ran on HQI ballasts!? Am i wrong? I will be suplementing with 4 96w PC actinic bulbs, so i think i will have the blue spectrum covered. [ July 21, 2001: Message edited by: Sardaukar ]
