I did much research and reading -- in fact for MONTHS before setting up a my 12g nano.
I'm speaking from my own experience (from 2 successful years running a nano) that the skimmer made a world of difference for me. The "refugium mud" leaches the trace elements back into the water...
Does anyone know the difference between these cheaper units and the much more expensive units? I have a 6 stage RO/DI unit with combo drinking and reef options.
Why do other people pay $450 for this same unit? Did I get a "bad" unit?

The only difference between IO and Reef Crystals is a little extra calcium and miniscule trace elements. Reef Crystals is just a marketing game. Use IO.
