  1. Aiptasia in the overflow!

As a note to tie this topic off.... With my diabetic needle in hand... I injected the ones I could get at with small amounts of white vinegar (I have 100G of water I wasnt too worried about 1/4 tsp of vinegar dropping my well buffered PH). I am happy to announce the vinegar did the trick...
  2. Aiptasia in the overflow!

Walmart pharmacy hooked me up with a diabetic needle for .13 cents! I have no kalk.. I got one with an injection of calcium. it went all strngy like, then slimy.... trying to get the rest. As soon as i try to incect, they retract way back down the overflow gap .
  3. Aiptasia in the overflow!

I have no kalk but had heard boiling water injected right into them works. I will be picking up some kalk though if that doesn't work. Thanks for the advice I will try feeding them kalk I think. and I'm headed off the Blue Seal feed store, and have found a CVS that has a reef owning employee...
  4. MH Lighting

Oh!!! 150s is plenty plenty for 37G I would think. You could even go down to 2 X 70W Halides = 3.78 Wpg with a 65W actinic = 5.54 Wpg. If you wanted easy going stonies or softies. with the 2 150s you get to 8.1 Watts per gallon. I have heard of some folks even throwing a 250 over a 29 (seems...
  5. MH Lighting

YUP I have that brace too... I wouldn't do anything to it.. that brace is essential to holding the tank together. Don't cut it, lift by it, lean on it, wink at it suggestively....Or replace it unless you are 120% sure of what to do. My tank is 75G 48" long and 24 X 24 I believe. if yours is...
  6. Aiptasia in the overflow!

will try pharmacy tomorrow.. thanks for the idea.
  7. Thinking of downsizing or leaving the hobby

I have thought of this same thing many times. Giving up to save money. My 75G is costly, the RODI filters clog way more than I thought they would and MH lights are expensive, electric bill... woooo boy! If you still like the aquarium.. I agree. go to the LFS and ask if they will store credit...
  8. MH Lighting

I bought a retro fit kit from http://www.hellolights.com After some wrangling and head scratching and asking for some help from someone with more electrical experience I got it all up and going inside a rigged hood. I have 2 175W MH (screw in type) with 2 65W actinic PCs. The Ushio 10Ks on...
  9. Salt water spoiling?

I have stored natural sea water for 2 weeks before. I syphoned off bottom nuggets of deadness (very little), but ran an airstone in it for a day or so before using it.
  10. Aiptasia in the overflow!

neither would do. Cant get the water level down that far. Dang! I thought this overflow design was great until now. I can even see the purpose of the lower inlet holes.. better water circulation.. brings all sorts of good critters right up through the fateening aiptasia. Matt's right. Aiptasia...
  11. Aiptasia in the overflow!

I had thought of this drying out Idea. How long can they live out of water? I can drain most of the overflow. The bottom has some big fat worms and a good deal of mysis living and breeding there. I wouldn't be able to scrape anything out of that little overflow gap. I dont even know why it's...
  12. Those with blue background in their aquariums ....

I don't have blue background, but my tank is in the middle of two rooms. So I clean half of my tanks backside, one end and the front. The rest of the glass I never clean, I just let the purple coraline hide everything. every 2 or 3 days I run my magnetic cleaning jigger over the whole thing to...
  13. Aiptasia in the overflow!

Ugh! I have a sweet 75G berlin style set-up with overflow and a 20G 'fuge/ sump setup. DSB, I don't know... but plenty of LR 1 yellow Tang, 2 tomato clowns, a bunch of Corals. So much pulsing Xenia and star polyps (or pipe organ) that I'm considering sticking my weed whacker in there to thin...
  14. Anemone hitchikers

I agree.. defintely not aiptasia. They have spread a bit more... All aiptasia in my tank is gobbled up greedily by my peppermint shrimp. I now have one little aiptasia hiding in my overflow where shrimpy cant get him... but it wont be long! These guys have a skeleton.. they are firm to the...
  15. July Featured Aquarium: Awesome Tank Righty!!

That is amazing. I am buying a new home in about 7 years and I'm already planning a similar adventure. Its funny, as gorgeous as your tank is... I found myself squinting at the equipment pics and trying to figure out how it all runs. The sump under the house!!!! perfect!! I just scrapped all...
