if it was the fish then just give it a while it should recover. you could dip it in a lugols solution just in case it has some infection.

I have some button polyps that grow like mad. I also recieved a couple cinnamon polyps on some live rock and now I have 4. that rock i got is now over 3 yrs old. some things just take a long time.

check e bay for a water general ro/di. you can get a 6 stage for under 100.00 and they work very well.
