  1. A question for A. J. Nilsen

Thanks Sanjay! For others interested in examining cyanobacteria here is a nice page called "Cyanobacterial Image Gallery" : http://www-cyanosite.bio.purdue.edu/images/images.html BTW, I have had problems with my computer that are now resolved so I'm resuming my water bear search :)
  2. A question for A. J. Nilsen

My Zeiss microscope has a standard 45° trinocular head. The phototube has a 2.5x lens and SLR is connected to it by a T2 adapter (you can get a T2 adapter for practically all SLRs). So, the camera is used without any lens and the focus is at the same plane as the image in microscope's eyepieces...
  3. A question for A. J. Nilsen

Hi! I have my Zeiss Axiostar+ microscope sitting next to my PC. I use a digital SLR (Canon D30) that is connected to the PC with USB cable. I then release the shutter (with mirror lockup) with a utility (http://www.breezesys.com/D30Remote/index.html) that allows me to take a preview shot that I...
  4. A question for A. J. Nilsen

Just an update This is ridiculous! I have now scanned about 20 cyanobacteria samples and found zero water bears! When I was not searching them, they were in almost every cyano sample. I'll keep trying...
  5. A question for A. J. Nilsen

Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately I didn't have time to take more pictures last night but I'll do it tonight. In the meantime I would be most grateful if you would comment some of my first photomicrographs available here: http://www.saunalahti.fi/~tatu/micro1/index.htm
  6. A question for A. J. Nilsen

I have recently purchased a microscope and found your article very interesting. While looking cyanobacteria under the microscope I keep finding these really interesting creatures that I think are water bears. They move by walking. Can you confirm this from this photo: I know the photo isn't...
  7. Where to buy Sponges?

MaxxGlock, I would buy from the expert, Steve Tyree. He has written excellent books about sponges (you might want to order those also). His web site: http://www.dynamicecomorphology.com/
  8. Manufacturer's Recommendations

Here goes. Nipple facing normally downwards is facing towards viewer. Let me know if you need more pictures. [ January 22, 2002: Message edited by: tatuvaaj ]</p>
  9. Manufacturer's Recommendations

Note that 250W HQI DE lamps can be installed only in one position. My AB 10KK pulps have two nipples, one in the inside tube and one in the outer. The inner nipple is facing to front (90 deg. angle) and the outer nipple (which is not placed in the middle of the tube but rather about 1/3 from the...
  10. Securing corals to LR? How?

Since your urchin is carrying things around, I'm guessing it is Mespilia globulus (image: )?http://www.aquariumarts.com/shortspineurchin.jpeg This urchin is a excellent herbivore altough it will eat some of your coralline algae. This has been shown to actually accelerate coralline algae growth...

  12. Ca Test problems

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote OK, that would explain why they got so low results with SeaTesT. In your picture the color change is much more dramatic. I have understood that the reagent #1's function is to precipitate Mg out of solution and if you know...
  13. Ca Test problems

MickAv8r, The colors shown for SeaTesT and Salifert really aren't even close. Salifert has a much more obvious color changes from bright pink to clear blue while SeaTesT has really murky colors and not so clear endpoint. I guess this is exactly the reason why people might get wildly different...
  14. Ca Test problems

MickAv8r, I thank for your many informative posts but... <blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote Do you know this for certain or are you just quessing? This site: http://www.lars-sebralla.de/index2.html has many interesting analysis about different aquarium...
