  1. Getting a Damsel Out

Wow....did that work. I took the bottle and cut the end almost all the way off. The last half inch or so served as a hinge. I tied monofilament to this new trap door and hung it outside the tank. Since the damsel is larger than the hole in the small end I used this hole to put food in...
  2. Getting a Damsel Out

How would you do the trap door? Thanks
  3. I THINK I HAVE ICH!!!!

I have a sailfin tang that has developed several tiny white dots on both sides. They are very very small, and almost appear to be bubbles, if that makes any sense? You guys think this is ich? He seems to be fine so far, although he is hiding a bit more than usual.

  6. Coral Banded Shrimp lost his LEGS???

Hey Lord, Yeah, I bet that's it. I seem to remember reading something about that. So much to learn. My son picked these up at the LFS, and they came out of two tanks, so I assume they are not a mated pair. But it seems like they're acting like the "mated pairs" I know...haha! How often do...
  7. Coral Banded Shrimp lost his LEGS???

Hi Guys, I have a relatively new tank, a few months old. It has various Damsels, Yellow and Sailfin Tangs, misc crabs snails and abelone. I added 2 Coral Banded Shrimp. After the second day, one of the shrimp lost one of his long front legs, the big bright one with color. And then the very...
  8. A question about red algae during startup cycle ???

Would this be a good time to add a gang of tank cleaners?
  9. overflow hole placement

And if one chooses to drill the back of the tank where should it be drilled? Near the bottom, and near the edges? Or just a few inches below the water level? Where would the professionals drill it?
  10. A question about red algae during startup cycle ???

Hi Guys, I have a 185g that I'm just starting up. I put in many many lbs. of live rock and after about a week or two all the sudden I'm getting a big bloom of a red colored algae everywhere. I seem to recall reading somewhere that this was normal and in fact one of the stages of the cycle...
  11. Need some help to get my tank going!!!

OK guys...final post on this one. It's running very well now....full speed by lowering the outside overflow about 4 inches. That final round of ideas solved the problem. I'm now cycling the tank. Thanks again guys...we did it!!!
  12. Durso standpipe for bulkhead on back glass ???

Well...I'm sure it'll have some, probably small, impact on flow. I'm just trying to see if there's any reason to go that low? Or just a few inches down?
  13. Durso standpipe for bulkhead on back glass ???

Can't find this last link.....this website seems to not work so well on my computer?
  14. Durso standpipe for bulkhead on back glass ???

Is there anything else one should look for when doing this mod? For instance, should the drilled hole be near the bottom or just a few inches below the top? Should the standpipe go into a box, or just be free standing?
  15. Need some help to get my tank going!!!

Yeah 68fj40....we were listening...it just didn't make any sense from my starting point...but now I (we) see the problem. So tonight I ripped it all apart and hung it back together with strings and clamps and tape....really.....just temporary. The system you guys are trying to explain to me...
