  1. Dog Advice Needed

I haven't read the entire thread, but you need to pick a dog based on your lifestyle, family, and home. For example, if you get a high energy dog, and aren't able to spend time with it, it will be a problem for you and the dog. If nobody is home for most of the day, you might be better off...
  2. Weird lamp...

So weird, I want one. Has anybody seen these salt lamps in stores? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001892AX2/?tag=reefs04-20
  3. PH calibration fluid on Long Island?

Mighty kind of you. Reefers are some of the nicest people! If I'm headed out to Nassau sometime, I'll get in touch. Thanks. :) I'm in East Northport, and figured I might get lucky locally and save the cost of shipping, or gas, for such a small item. And of course all of us are always...
  4. Huge Hair Algae Problem

How big is the tank? What livestock? What are you feeding, and how much? What protein skimmer are you running? Do you have mechanical filtration (sponges, canister, socks, etc.) and how often are you cleaning these? Have you been keeping up with water changes? How much, how often?
  5. PH calibration fluid on Long Island?

Anybody know if LFS's around here carry PH calibration fluid? I ordered 7.0 from MarineDepot.com, but found out I need 10.0 as well to calibrate a Neptune Apex controller. :irked: Seems like the controller should come with these!!!
  6. tomato clown problems

Find somebody to trade with, or sell to. If they don't like each other, that's the only real solution.
  7. Fish is sick

A varied diet including PE mysis. Feed at least 3x a day. Soak in Selcon or Zoe. Make sure water quality is perfect. If not, start mixing water for a water change. How sudden did these appear? Is he being picked on by tankmates?
  8. Termites...

Saw some swarms in my back yard yesterday. They were coming out of the ground in the middle of my yard. Should I worry? Go to Home Depot and nuke the ground with chemicals? Call a termite company? What kind of experiences have people had with termite companies? What kind of treatments have...
  9. Live rock and bubbles, need help!

I would do a few 100% water changes, and filter with a Polyfilter. And add a Polyfilter to your main tank as well, if you decide to use these rocks. Do you see life in that container? Pods? I wonder what "environmentally safe" means. I wouldn't assume anything about that claim.
  10. can a cut on your hand effect your tank??

Oh, and if you notice anything like this, make sure you have a frag kit handy:
  11. can a cut on your hand effect your tank??

I have my hand in my tank all the time, cuts or not. The only thing I ever noticed was a slight blemish once: In addition to gloves, you might invest in these:
  12. How many Clean-up Crew Critters are on your reef?

75 gallon FOWLR. A few trochus, a few astraea, a few nassarius. 2 skunk cleaner shrimp, 3 peppermint. I'll probably add a couple more astraea soon, and a couple more nassarius. 1 per gallon rules are crazy. 1000's of copepods, and not quite as many amphipods, and a handful of bristleworms...
  13. nitrate issues

There's no substitute for water changes. Water changes not only export nitrates, but other undesirables we either don't, or can't test for. I'm guessing this tank has not had enough water changes recently, because louoner has not said how often he has been doing them. And an avatar with two...
  14. nitrate issues

Test the nitrates before and after the 30% change, let us know how you make out. New water is ideally mixed for 24 hours or longer. Some people mix for a week. There's a lot of chemical reactions going on, as well as aeration of the water. But mixing time will not impact your nitrates.
  15. nitrate issues

I would start mixing water, and do a water changes every few days until you get your nitrates back under control. Nitrates alone will not immediately kill your fish, but they are a good indicator of general water quality. I neglected a 75 for a few years, and it took about 4 30% water changes...
