  1. rewiring a 300w WON heater

I did the same. Just chopped off the IC board and have ac going straight to the element. I control the temperature through aquacontroller. Danny
  2. sea swirl modifications

    No, it can't be done.
  3. REMOVING MAXIMA FROM LIVE ROCK?

My mistake. Absolutely do NOT cut the byssal gland. Cut the threads, and as close to the rock as possible. -Yam
  4. Aquarium heater question....

Safest bet would be to use an independant controller with the heater controller. Both would have to be stick on before you cooked your tank. -Yam
  5. REMOVING MAXIMA FROM LIVE ROCK?

IMO, chiselling the rock is more stressful to the clam. As stated above, use a sharp, sterile razor and cut the byssal gland. No harm if done properly. Oh yeah, Get D. Knop's book Giant Clams. -Yam
  6. Quiet Skimmer Needed!

Do not get the Remora. It is definately not quite. My CS 8-1 is more quiet then the Remora Pro (have both). I would go with the Turboflotor Multi. It takes a little bit of real estate behind the tank, but is very good. Danny
  7. Any table saw recommendations?

Check out the "Tool Corral" at Amazon.com. I bought all my tools there. People give in depth reviews of why one is better then the other. I based my decision on the popularity and price. For this reason, I chose the Bosch w/free stand. I love it. The table extends out for large pieces of...
  8. Acclimating Montipora digitata

I think you should always place new corals in a lower light area of the tank, irregardless of where it came from. There is always some stress when a coral transfers tanks due to chemistry differnces, water flow rates, etc. Placing a coral in high light can stress it out and put it over the...
  9. So far, Not impressed with my new EuroReef

When I put my hand in the water, the skimmer instantly stops foaming. I think a similar phenomenon happens when you place a new skimmer in the tank, except to a larger extent. Must be from the residues on the skimmer walls from the manufacturing process. In addition, I believe the water...
  10. San Francisco Bay Area Fish Stores

Another plug here for Bob at GotReef. I got a lot of live rock, southdown sand, as well as a few sps. Quality Stuff. danny
  11. Turbofloater 1000 - Gravity Feed?

This is a great skimmer, as long as it is properly maintained. The venturi seems to get clogged fairly easily, but is also very easy to clean. IMO it is much better then a Remora Pro, which I also have. To keep the turboflotor running smoothly, just take a cup of hot water and let the venturi...
  12. Your favorite tip or trick...

Acclimating new specimens. Dump the fish/inverts/etc and water in a large tupperware container. Then tie a knot in some airline tubing and create a syphon to drip acclimate your new specimens. By tightening or loosening the knot, you can control the drip rate. Makes it a lot easier to do...
  13. AB AquaspaceLight questions

fnj: If you like the color of the hqi's, then great. The aquaspacelight would be your best bet. Just make sure you see the fixture on in person. The only downfall with DE hqi's is the limited bulb selection. Especially the 250W ones. HQI bulbs are cheap too, and they last 12-18 months...
  14. AB AquaspaceLight questions

Reef Fanatic has carries it as well for the same price. I've ordered from them numerous times and their customer service is great. Fast shipping and they offer a points program where the more you buy, the more you'll get discounted on your next order. It's a very classy hood, and you'll save...
  15. Your favorite tip or trick...

That previous tip works great, except with SD sand, prerinsed or not. Heres my tip. Microwave a full cup of water and allow you venturi skimmer to suck it all up. Do this once a week and you'll never have any salt buildup. Works especially well w/ turboflotors which are excellent skimmers...
