In basic mode, the lights have buttons on them which give you control of a number of color temps from 5K to 20K. Once you have selected the color temp, you can adjust the intensity of the lighting. The lights are turned on and off via your power switch, a timer, or reef computer.
For other modes of operation, you connect the light to your PC (windows, for now). Using the software, you have the ability to add numerous parameter / settings which will automatically transition from point one to the next over the course of time. So basically you can have the lights turn on at a specified time at a certain brightness and color temp. Then, for the next specified time, you can set a different color temp, and intensity etc. From the time the first point begins and the next point is reached the lights will transition from point 1 to point 2. The lights will also control
Vortech pumps, so you can set a 'feeding' time on the lights where the intensity drops, etc. and the pumps go into feeding mode. Using this functionality, storms can be programmed to affect both lighting and water movement. In systems with multiple Radions, the unit you connect to via USB becomes the master, and will relay all programming to any 'slaves' that are recognized in the vicinity.
In the very near future you will be able to control all these settings through your Neptune or Profilux controller.
Ecotech expects to add additional features to the software in future releases; including lunar calendar etc. Also the lights are field upgradeable. Meaning that as newer LED technology is released, you can swap out LED modules. As is now done with Vortech controllers.
Ecotech claims that one Radion is equivalent to a 250w Halide. in intensity and coverage. They suggest that on smaller systems you use 1 Radion per 40 gallons, and on large systems 1 per 70 gallons or so. They claim the light footprint is around 24". So for a 48" tank, they suggest 2 lights for full coverage.
You dont need a mounting frame as each light is capable of hanging individually.
I think I covered all you asked. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions.
