Hi All,

I need some direction regarding entry-level digital camera and printer equipment. I don't have the resources to buy the really great equipment some of you use.

For the camera, it needs to be an all-around use camera, that is, it will be used for snapshots of the kids, etc, but I also would like some macro capability so I can post a decent picture :D . Budget would be in the 350-500 dollar range. I have read some good things about the Nikon 4500, how about others?

Printer should be able to print a decent picture for a nominal cost. I guess I haven't really priced printers lately, but maybe you can get an idea of what I should spend compared to my camera budget.

Also, online sources of camera equipment would be appreciated. I know I ask a lot, so thank you in advance!

For a good mid-range camera, I really like my Minolta DiMage 7i. I've said it before and I'll say it again. ;-) Since the 7hi came out, the 7i has dropped considerably in price. I paid just over $500 for mine. Although the new canon digital rebel coming out sometime this month sounds AWESOME. I may have to try and trade-up. ;-)

For printers, I recently had to get a new printer and ended up going with a Lexmark printer/scanner combo (the X6100). It's under $200 and does a really good job. The X5100 is basically the same machine with a slightly lower resolution scanner, and goes for under $150.

Thanks Sharkky! I'll have to look into the DiMage. The Lexmark printer/scanner I looked at last weekend, and I think I'll pick one up.
