Avatar help

I didn't know where else to post this and it is photo related so this must be the place. I have tried to add an avatar several times and cannot get the file smaller than 12k, and that's even resizing it to 10pix x ?. What do I need to do to get the file smaller?

Set the pixels to 72 per inch, it may be set higher, in which case its going to be a larger file.

Just in case you didn't get it yet, Here is what I do,

Open the file you want in Adobe Photoshop

Click on Image Size.

Change the Image size to the size you want

Then save.
