In a whiny voice--

What camera should I buy?

Seriously though, here is what I want a camera for:

1. take pics of the family on outings and such to put on a cd and send to the in-laws for Christmas.

2. Take pics of things at work (these kind of need to be high quality as I am looking for detail in my pics. That way I can make a portfolio of the work we have done on boats in the past)

3. Take pics of my tank and fish when I get them

4. Experiment a little/learn a little

I have been reading a lot, and I think the camera I want is the Canon Powershot G3, but it is a little too expensive.

I think my limit is around 400$

I am leaving a magazine out on the desk with a review of that camera in it on the top. Who knows maybe I will get lucky.

Right now I have a agfa ephoto cl18

What a piece of Junk that is

If you look in the wallpaper section under Io and Europa, That kind of quality is probably going to be too expensive for me, but as close as I can get.

Thanks for any input

Bryan - Canon has announced the G5, a 5-megapixel upgrade of the G3. So you may be able to get a good deal on the G3 pretty soon.

I'll second Brian's recommendation. A Canon G3 is a kissass camera and great for everything you want to do. Right now, it's still mid/high 500's, but when the G5 comes out in a month or so you may be able to find them cheap. It'll be the best cam for the buck in the 400-500 range.

Hey guys, thanks

Len, is that a Kiss ass or Kick ass Camera

okay, so the G3 is a good camera, I may just get one.

Len, is it possibly to take aquarium pics with it?

I really don't know anything about photography, and I can't seem to find if the G3 can be focused on something that close.

I may wait until July to get it as a combo Father's day and Birthday Present.

Isin't it great when you get to pick the present??? :D
