I borrowed a friends digital camera - the A70. Did my research, seems the A70 is a good camera. BUT, while it takes great everyday pics, the pics of my tank have really washed out colours.

I am basically just doing a custom white balance setting before every pic. It automatically detects the amount of light for that shot and changes the white balance.

problem is, the photos do not represent the actual colour in my tank at all. My pink and green frogspawn looks like a pastel pink colour with almost no green at all, my cream with bright blue tips acro frag looks only cream, etc.

ANy suggestions for this cam newbie pls?

Try setting the white balance to some of its other settings. Depending on the exact kelvin temp of your lighting, you may need to go with the fluoroescent setting or the daylight setting or the incandescent setting. That usually helps a lot. Until I 'dial in' a camera, I'll take the same pic in all the WB settings until I figure out which works best when.
