This is my first attempt at having a saltwater aquarium. I found this tank at a garage sale for $10 so i bought it and luckily, it was right near my birthday (I relie on christmas and my birthday for money, which is all put towards aquariums). I am planning to put this tank into a 46 gallon bowfront and start my first reef. Enjoy the pic! Comments please!

Equipment:
-Penguin 170 with bio-wheel
-300 gph wet/dry
-Powersweep 228 powerhead, 160 gph current
-Visi-Jet skimmer
-1 Single tube strip light, i hate the lame lighting, not very appealing.

Stock:
-1 Coral Beauty
-2 Humbug damsels
-1 Sand sifter star
-2 Peppermint shrimp
-1 Condy anemone

It looks like a fairly young tank going through its diatom phase. I'd definitely increase the lighting and dose with B-ionic if you aren't adding anything. It will promote coralline algae growth and help choke out the brown diatoms.

Also, the bio-wheel and bio-media in the wet/dry could be taken out, and it is something I recommend. With all that live rock, there is really no reason to have additional biological filtration.

I am sorry, but your anemone is bleached badly..and without proper lighting,it will die :( I recommend you feed it..often.

Condy's are always white with purple little tips atleast all the ones I have ever seen in pet shops and online catalogs are. Maybe all the ones I see are dying too, eh??

If anemones are white they are bleached from stress{lost their zooxanthallae},you most often see sebaes in this condition.A little TLC,good water conditions, and the right lighting, can bring back their zoo. When condy's and sebaes are healthy they are brown w/ purple..not very attractive, but that is their normal color.

Feeding will certainly help as Condylactis aren't hard to care for and do thrive under lower light than most anemones. I wouldn't attempt to judge the state of the one pictured above without more detail/white balance though... I would say feed it weekly and monitor it. If it looks happy, then no worries.

A healthy condy will have pink/purple tips with off white tentacles. SOme of the tentacles may appear brownish, that is fine. The foot should be a ice light pink. when the tentacles turn pure white adn the foot becomes white mush, then u have a bleaching/dieing anemone. :D
