Let me start off by saying I am new to saltwater aquariums and am in the beginning stages of setting up my tank. The manhattan reefs community has helped me learn a great deal but I am still having some problems.

I recently built one of the durso standpipes using the instructions from dursostandpipes.com however I cannot get it to work properly and I have just about had it. The problem is the overall water level in the chamber is the same height as the display tank. I covered the hole which should have caused a vaccum but the water level still rises on past the elbow and matches the level of the display tank. Any help would be much appreciated.

Looks like my pump was pumping to much water. I previously had a larger hole and the suction worked great minus the noise. So I basically drilled a few smaller holes in the pipe and now the level has lowered and no noise. Thanks everyone.
